Wheel%20Horse%20520-HC.JPGIMG_1785.JPGJust picked one up. Never seen one greyIMG_1786.JPG before. There are no tags on the tractor or the engine. Any info? Has the regular steering gear with the forward swept front axle. It also has an air cleaner that is more box-style and taller than the ones I have had before.IMG_1787.JPGIMG_1788.JPG

I'll post pictures tomorrow, it is definitely a 520 and the paint appears to be original.

Your description sounds lile a 520HC.

Does it also have the non-louvered hood and only the low oil pressure light.

Never heard of a grey one though.

You can see some red coming through in one of the pictures.

That is an HC model.

Non louvered hood, only one idiot light, larger air cleaner, swept axle, no gear reduction, no chrome, faster ground speed.

If you have it running you should also notice that it goes a little faster than a normal 520H.

Thanks for the info. I got it running, smokes a little but I think that is from sitting. It won't stay put though. :)

It is a 1989 520HC painted grey with new decals. It is an 89 due to the round knob on the shift lever. 88 had a different knob. I have both years.

Wheel Horse did have grey tractors such as the 1848 with the Briggs Twin and some really liked that color. The HC was the commercial model  and absolutely the fastest 520 made at about 7.5 mph. It first came out in 1988 and was the first and the Grandfather of the 520 Series. They went with Onan power plants instead of Kohler due to more torque at lower RPM to spin the 60 inch decks that fit under the swept front axle.

Pardon me but a regular 520 is a dog by comparison. Disclosure: I am biased and I love my 520HCs.

Here is how it is supposed to look:

No offense taken, but a set of 26" tall tires on one my "dogs" might just equalize the final gear ratio with your HC for top end runs down the 1/4 acre, or does my does my short rear get the "holeshot" off the lawn? ... :auto-iroc:... :auto-layrubber: ...:laughing-rofl:    I know :offtopic:...Jeff.

Jeff, I knew my comment would stimulate some comment / discussion. How about if I put on some 26s and override the governor on my engine that already has a much bigger stock air cleaner and could suck air and fuel like gangbusters compared to a non HC. I think you have to ride an HC and push the motion control lever all the way forward to know what I am talking about. I smile every time I do that. I believe the top speed on my 1997 520 is a measly 5.6 mph by comparison but it still is a great tractor.

The HC would win the 520 all stock eliminator class hands down. By the way how come we have tractor pulls but no tractor drags? Or do we?

If the truth be known no Wheel Horse tractor is a dog in the derogatory sense but they are all top dogs in the flattering sense. Does that make sense?
