Honda Horse

Finally got fed up messing with the old HH60 and pulled it off my 606. Slapped the Honda G300 on, which I have $0 in, and got everything working! Just have to set up one of the old Tecumseh gas tanks and modify the exhaust so the hood will fit WITHOUT cutting it. Should be a work horse now!

Zero money projects that work are the best. Good luck if you try to wear out that Honda. My company has been using Honda powered generators for twenty plus years. My genset has outlasted two service trucks and I would not be surprised if it outlasts my newest truck. Good looking install you have there.

Please let us know what you do with the exhaust.   I'm planning to put a Honda GX160 on a 604 or a Commando 6.   I've also given up on the Tecys.

I've been checking ebay for custom exhausts that are used on go-karts, but haven't found the right pipe.    When I bought the Commando at an auction run by the Amish, the auctioneer said, "I dare you put a Honda on it".   The Amish around here use Honda GX series engines for everything.    They used to use Wisconsins, but have switched to Hondas for their durability and more available parts.    Your WH might not be be authentic & original, but it will be dependable.

Ok, I wouldn't know the Amish from Martians, but when did they embrace the internal combustion engine?  Last I saw (Amish Mafia tv show) they had kick scooters, but no bicycles because the chain was too modern. Please forgive my ignorance here.

Old school Amish they ain't Hero ......around here at least ....they have long used internal combustion engines for whatever they want.....pumping water to cooling milk...heck even welding. Long as they don't ride on them. Several of them have  small power shops.  The wood working bunch have old Wisconsins turning their mills, saws and lathes via big belts.

Don't believe everything you see on the booby  tube!

They all use them here to run their generators, air compressors and milk coolers.  They just can't tie into the public power grid.

They are 6 lug Chevy brake rotors. Miraculously they bolt on with the factory holes on the rims. Zero drilling required and they were FREE!! I'll snap a pic for you tomorrow Ed!

I have a 656 that I mounted a Honda on....great running, trusty and very thrifty on fuel. It's also quiet, bet I could hold a cell phone conversation while driving it!

I'll have to look at the four off my F-150, but I think they are too big to fit inside the wheel.

A HUGE thank you to Tony @Docwheelhorse for settin' me up here.

The generosity of some of our members never ceases to amaze me.

This here is another 1974 C160, but with the rare Tecumseh HH/OH160 OHV engine. Made one year only.

It's rough. Very much in need of a full disassembly and restoration.

When it came here it was missing one tie rod and the other was broken off one end.
Today I popped used tie rods on and Trina used her 867 to drag it from the drive to the shed.

      The engine wouldn't move.
Tin was near chock full of skeletal mouseseses and their house.
Cleaned that out and the engine spins freely now.

      So progress has been made.

It'll be a good long while before we get to this one but I just couldn't turn it down considering the rarity.

We're going to take apart the Tecumseh from my Honey's 657 so I can replace the crankshaft.
Any little tricks or tips I need to know about?

So I have been working on a 656 I picked up at the end of last year and I did my first ever motor rebuild by my self on it. However it seems that I have lots of play in the piston and some slop at TDC more then I should have. So to finish the year mowing I am thinking of doing a predator swap while I go over the engine again. I am sure several people have done this before and I have a spare mounting plat to make it work. I am wondering if anyone has any pictures of ones they have done for help along the way. I know I will need a adapter to use the factory pulley and I don't want to destroy any of the sheetmetal since it is in good shape. I will keep you posted as I go along and eventually when I get the hh60 back together correctly to re install.

So I have a Honda gx390 OHV engine in one of my Sears Suburban's which runs great and has cut my lawn for at least 5 years, it has electric and pull start. The engine was installed by the PO as was the wiring. Since I have owned it, it has never charged correctly. It has two wires coming from the engine one black and one brown... The black is currently connect back to the B+ through a small 1 inch plastic connector that has the symbol for a Diode on it I suspected that this is the juice back to the battery don't know if this is also some sort of rectifier (very small like one inch X one inch plastic) I took the voltage reading off this and it was a very low reading ….. like 2.5 volts DC.  The other brown wire to me was more like it this wire is just hanging not connected voltage measured 27-32 volt AC.... Both wires have the same push-on connector and I seriously considered switching the wires (connecting the hanging 27-32 volt AC to the Diode and see what happens but I didn't have the courage to do it).

Questions :   Could I install a new circuit using a external rectifier to the 27 volt AC drop?  Note there is only ONE wire from the stator putting out the 27 volts DC all the Wheel Horse rectifiers I have seen have TWO wires and a B+ tab. Would you try connecting the hot AC volt line to the current Diode/Rectifier?  Could doing this take out the Diode, also If yes and this provides DC output how would I control the amount of charge to the battery.  Do they make ONE wire (AC input Rectifiers) ?

Lots of questions I really need to solve this problem so that the battery stays charged and I can use the starter.  Thanks in advance
