oldredrider 2,547 #2 Posted December 19, 2016 The check valve in the fuel pump is not working. You could take it apart and clean it, or do as many others have done, and replace it with an electric fuel pump. This is a typical problem with tractors that have the fuel tank under the seat pan. Keeping the fuel tank topped off may help too.
Ed Kennell 35,616 #3 Posted December 19, 2016 Just fill the tank so the fuel level is above the fuel pump. Most of the valves in these pumps do not seal well enough to keep the fuel from draining back into the tank over time.
slammer302 2,154 #4 Posted December 19, 2016 Another cheap fix for this is putting a inline fuel shut off valve on before the fuel pump so it can not drain back to the tank
skrusins 128 #5 Posted December 20, 2016 I put in a electric fuel pump with an off and on switch. I turn the pump on for a few seconds before I turn the ignition key it fires right up and shut the pump off.
Jerry77 1,218 #6 Posted December 20, 2016 If you do go electric, get a pump with a max of 3 psi... don't want to blow the seat out of the carb
woodchuckfarmer 333 #7 Posted December 22, 2016 You could shut the tank valve off. Wayne
JC 1965 1,528 #8 Posted December 22, 2016 I would go with the electric fuel pump but as stated above by Jerry 77, don't go over 3 psi on the pump.
