C-series plastic gas tank drain leak

Recommended Posts

briankd

just poured gas in this to try and start my C-120  for the first time and gas leaking out of the rubber grommet. tried to pry it out but won't come out. also thought maybe the drain valve unscrewed but it just spins round and round:lol:. put new gas line on this and noticed it was loose but thought that was normal.

is this gas drain assembly serviceable or thought about jb weld around it don't know how that would hold. or do I need to go find another tank?

JB Weld will not stick to the black poly tank. Everything in that area is a press fit. Pull straight down and wiggle the valve while pulling. After you remove the grommet, make sure the tank is not cracked at the hole. Get a new grommet and reinsert everything. A new supple grommet should seal the leak.

You should be able to get a new one at the local toro dealer or online at parts tree. It is a common service part, pull valve out then grommet take to most any dealer

When you install the new grommet,  Start the barbed fitting in the grommet, but do not push it in past the first barb.   Push the grommet all the way in to the tank, then push the barbed fitting all the way in.  The barbs expand the grommet to make the seal to the tank.

Not to be picayune, but the rubber 'grommet' is better referred to as a 'bushing'.  Keyword ebay for 'wheelhorse bushing' and you'll find a pack of 5 for about $11.  You'll also see a new fuel shut-off valve at similar sellers for only a few bux more.  Amazon has these too....tons of 'em.
