hoosier 1 #1 Posted January 4, 2009 Picked this up today not more than 3 miles from my home. I happened to see it outside a guy's barn. Stopped and asked about it and ended up bringing it home. Turns out he's got lots of WH tractors, attachments, and parts. Who'd a thunk it? This one's got some problems, but hey. I got it to run, sure wish the electric start was there, though. The shroud must have been changed, maybe the whole engine, along with the belt guard(obviously)
BPjunk 184 #2 Posted January 4, 2009 Not a bad one to bring home, although more then the drive belt guard has been changed. Look to see if the flywheel has the ring gear for the starter as you may have to just swap another fan shroud in place the bolt in a starter. Uh and go back to the guys house and look for a 1963 or 1964 Wheel Horse that he took the fron axle out from underneth to install on the Lawn Ranger. (Wheel Horse didn't use cast spindle arms on the 1965 to 1968 Lawn Ranger series) Wild Bill in Richmond, Va.
hoosier 1 #3 Posted January 4, 2009 BP, Yep. I've already had the shroud off and it has the gear. As for the front axle, the guy's a big ole boy and he said he wheelied it and the axle broke when it came down. Matters not to me if it is'nt really correct, it works. :hide:
Teddy da Bear 11 #4 Posted January 4, 2009 Nice score! I see he was a little short on gas line too....(should go under the shroud and through clips) And I don't see a choke cable... Not a big deal... I am astounded that the wrong belt guard from a larger tractor would fit on the Ranger. :hide:
CasualObserver 3,406 #5 Posted January 5, 2009 I see he was a little short on gas line too....(should go under the shroud and through clips) No... it should pass through the two holes in the shroud above the recoil. All the Tecumsehs were that way. Should look like this.
Michael Bullington 5 #6 Posted January 5, 2009 jason, I thought some of the older tecumsehs ran the fuel line like this...such as the 502 model..but it had no holes in the shroud .maybe im wrong, but it seem i remember seeing some like this :hide:
CasualObserver 3,406 #7 Posted January 5, 2009 Michael, I stand corrected... I think you're right, the earlier ones (62 and older ) did not have the holes in the shroud. If they have the holes though... the fuel line is meant to run through the shroud. Perhaps BP will chime in and set us all straight! :hide:
TT-(Moderator) 1,127 #8 Posted January 5, 2009 The 32R/32E Lawn Rangers and the 502/552 models are the only ones this should pertain to. The gas line passes behind the blower housing backing plate right at the base of the cylinder. The tank is mounted in front of the engine on the 550/551 models, so it wouldn't apply to them.
