1054 tranny modification

As you all know, the 953/1054 differential is purely crap. Wheel Horse doesn't supply parts for them anymore but there is a solution.

Good Luck!!

Charlie when you mentioned on here that you were putting a big Clinton in a large frame....I was curious what you were going to do with the diff bits. :hide:

I'm working on doing the same mod to a 953 case I have here.

Your graphic illustration will be a big help to others with the weak link differential in there 953/1054's. :D

Pure Crap????? :hide: 45 years on mine and I've had 5 1054's none with a broken differential.... what are you guys doing to these things? :hide: I guess this is just like the guys that say the 1" 4 pinion 4 speed Uni-Drives are "pure crap" too.... :D

:hide: My fathers first 1054 had the original unidrive tranny and differential until September of this year! The 1054 was heavily used all those years.

We replaced the unidrive with an old 'spare" my father had that sat outside for 15 years. We used keosene and KROIL to loosen up the gears and differential and its running like a new one now!

Here are some photos just to show how used this tractor is today!

Crap is not the correct word -not perfect but not crap!

I wouldn't say the 4-pinion is pure crap. I tractor pull with one and it has a clinton torque monster in front of it.

Hello.

My name is Christer,I`m from Norway and a proud owner of a 953 and a 1054.

Been a member of RedSquare since aug 2009. A very good forum, helped me many times. This is my first message her on RedSquare(hope it comes out)

Problem: differential house is broken on my 953, ( I didn`t see it before I got her home :omg: )because of worn out needlebearings.

charlie write on his drawing that any differential out of a hydro or a unidrive will fit.(with 1 1/8 inch axle)

So, will a differential out of a 520 hc fit?? :D (on sale on E-bay)

Hard to find parts here overseas, only place to find parts are e-bay.

Thanks, Christer.

Anything with 1 1/8" axles will work. I just did another one of these conversions with my 953.
