Results of driving into a groundhog hole

Recommended Posts

First off.... I DID NOT DO IT!

The neighbor told me his 312-8 was up on the hill immobile.

He uses it for cutting the grass between the Christmas trees.

Problem was it was stuck in reverse and couldn't even be pushed.

Further in the conversation it came out that he got stuck in a groundhog hole.

He tried to rock it out of the hole.

He said the smoke was flying!

I assumed it was a belt, clutch problem.

So up on the hill I took off the fenders and shifter.

With a long punch I was able to force it into neutral and coast it home.

Today I got the transfer case apart.

Not a pretty sight.

The price of the 3 gears on Partstree is $665!

The 312-8 will get a transplant from his smoking WorkHorse.

Here's pics.

Ouch! That poor Stallion!

Should have jacked that Horse up and covered the hole with a plank. Hate to say it, "Duh!"

After I fixed i wouldn't give it back to him.  He shouldn't be allowed to abuse things like that

Did you shop around for those gears, Partstree is good for the diagrams and part #'s but I always go out on the net and shop around prices .  Partstree has been high in my experience .

I keep Conibear sets around for those guys but the last 2 years I had one burrow in right in the middle of my garden.

Here's the fix.....

The neighbor probably ran this one all summer with the plug missing on the air intake.

Motor now has too much blow-by to run.

So the workhorse is donating the transmission to the 312-8.

Another to tear apart in the yard.

The garage is occupied by my Caravan.

Right rear spring is broken. (hauled too many tractors in it?)

@N3PUY  Lend your neighbor an anvil , maybe it will be in one piece when you get it back. I don't understand people who abuse equipment .

Send a PM to @racinfool40 (Mike).  He may have replacement gears for you at a very much cheaper cost.  Seriously.  :)

      Very Solid tractor!

Newer Agro Tires on Rear and Solid Front Turf Tires. Wheel Weights on rear. Fully Swapped Forward Swept axle off of 520h. I ran my 60" Deck on this tractor for over a year with no issues.
Deck it solid top to bottom with no rot and newer blades. Belt and Pulley are good to go!
She's just a little dusty and needs a cleaning. Can get a nice Seat a Tractor Supply.

NEW SEAT INSTALLED ON THIS TRACTOR! Started it up and ran it for a while yesterday... Forgot how nice this thing is. Tempting to keep it but it's time to send her one her way. GREAT TRACTOR!

my 1067 stopped moving; limited slip had worn out long ago;  now input pully is turning , but tractor doesnt move --- very slight motion forward or backward if on level ground with no resistance.  Enough to tell me shift lever is actually changing gears.
I suspect input shaft woodruff keys but might be something worse ... i am interested in perhaps buying a new, used,or rebuilt  transaxle if someone has one they would part with.  And any advice on opening up the transaxle and looking inside .  Or where i can find parts to rebuild it myself...

      Hello y'all,

I hope everyone is staying safe and staying healthy. If not, i pray that you or whoever is afflicted be healed soon.

I hope to learn a lot from the forums and hopefully can use some of you young whipper snappers for your brains (ideas, how to's and such). Lol. Btw i am only 30, much respect for the older generation(s)!

For me, well... If i would have found this 5-6 years ago, i would have said I am new to Wheel Horse. That is about the time my dad bought the 312-8 (that i now own). That purchase and talking to my dad about implements/attachments that i could purchase is what got me so interested in wheel horse.

Like i mentioned, i started with a 312-8. When i purchased from my dad, it came with a mower pan and a snowblower (wrong model tho). Wisconsin winters were brutal and a regular snowblower was taking me 2+ hours to clear the driveway. Thats when i bought my B-100, included in that deal was a mower pan and a plow. Boy... that B-100 has plowed a lot of snow. I love it.

I had also bought 2 lack luster tillers at some auctions. Well, that made me look for a tiller attachment. Found one relatively close and went to go look. $200 later, i had a tiller loaded into my truck and i had asked if he had the tillers mount for the rear axle. He said he wasnt sure, but he has a wheel horse sitting in the back. Told me to go look.

I look over this 854, and there is no rear mount. Just as im getting up, he asks if i want the tractor. I said i only got the $200 i gave you. He said free of charge. And thats how i gained my 854. (854s hood is in my shop)

I want to start restoring my wheel horses, pretty paint, new decals, clean them up. I am proud of what i own.

And now im looking at getting a D200 with FEL and a backhoe. Its a sketch time to buy but i could use the tractor for house and cabin work.

Pics are attached. Please ignore the messes. They aint the prettiest tractors, but they all run.
