The transmission is a Wheel Horse #5010.  It was used on the 1960 and 1961 suburbans.  The 1960 400, 500 and 550 and the 1961 401.  The plow is from the same years, but will work on anything with a slot hitch.  That trans may be in good shape.  It does not look like it has been sitting outside.  Pull the shifter and you can "kind of" get a look inside.  See if you can turn the input pulley...counter-clockwise...and shift into the gears.  If you want to drain it, back out one of the bottom back side-plate bolts...no drain plug on these.  :)

Thanks for the info! Looks like i got to find the rest and build a suburban now!  But the transmission works great. No leaks and shifts in all gears and works properly. All the parts were stored in a barn since the 80's

It may have some water in there, just from condensation.  Take out one of those bolts on the top and stick in a long something that will not break (coat hanger) and see what the oil looks like.  If it is milky, it has water in the oil.  :)

I as well never heard of a 500. But I figured it was a typo. But I opened the rear end up on one side and all was well. Except the fact someone filled the inside with grease. Never seen that before. But on a better note,  the guy called me and said he thinks he found the rest of the tractor!!! And it's mine to come get if I want it. So I'll keep y'all posted with pics as soon as I find out for sure.

Very cool! Please do keep us posted and don't forget the pictures.

Don't fret over us picking on Steve. We all respect and love him and he's a wealth of information. But most of us jump at the chance of getting a shot in when we see the opportunity. :)

I don't know guys.  The "Transmission Usage" sheet I use from the manual has "1960 suburban 400 & 500" on it, but I do have 400 & 550 written next to it...like it was a typo.

That may be why I have that written next to it.   I crossed out the 500.

You know...that was my 1st mistake this year!!  :banana-linedance:

Ya made me look Steve. Yup, it sure does. It definitely is a typo. There was only a 400 and 550. :)

Well, it looks like you're just missing the frame, tool box, hood stand and hood to have a complete tractor. Just add an appropriate engine.  Is this stuff just loose in a barn or something? The rest of it's probably there somewhere unless it was cannibalized for the steel. You're not missing much more.

Well he had the rearend, plow and front end on Craigslist and I went and bought it for $75. I told him if he came across anything looking like wheel horse call me. Well he called and said he found the rest pictured over at his dad's place.  So I went and picked those parts up and have him pics of the rest missing and told him of he finds those parts or anything wheel horse I will take it most likely. I guess they had a suburban and a bunch of parts. Now I'm just slot getting them as they clean out!

To russellmc301 if you go on Craigslist for central NJ. There's a plow just like the one I posted in pics. The guy wants 50$ for it. It's located in Mt Bethal PA. There was also a couple in Ohio Craigslist. I believe two were under chillicothe oh

Well I picked up some more stuff today to put towards the suburban pile of parts! Soon I'll have enough to build a complete suburban I'm thinking. I got a hood, frame, brake pedal, some steering parts, transaxle side plates, plow bracket and lift arm. Also a H55 Tecumseh. At least that's what I'm told it is. But I'm not to good at identifying exacts on the Tecumseh/ Lauson engines.
