416 steering wheel?

Recommended Posts

clueless

Picked up a real nice 1997 416-8 this weekend, steering wheel is larger than on my other WHs. Have a nice older one off a C thought I might put on the 416, need more gut room. Got the roll pin out no problem ( newer stuff that been keep inside makes a big difference) wheel doesn't want to come off. Anybody here taken one off , don't want to mess up anything, to nice of a tractor. Am I missing something?

Chris.

It is just stuck on the shaft at this point.

Turn it as hard as you dare and it should break free.

So the roll pin is the only thing that keeps it on, like the older models?

Yes, just the roll pin. In the past I've turned the wheel so the hole is vertical and plug it on the bottom. Then you can fill the hole with PB Blaster or whatever you like and let it soak a few days. It will work itself around the shaft and should free it up. :)

If you knock out the roll pin and take it out for a spin the steering wheel will come loose at the most inappropriate time....... So

Stay in the shop and turn the steering wheel back and forth and it should come loose.     :)
