Model 655 12v Starting Issue

I acquired a 65 model 655, its got a HH70 engine on it along with a NEW 12v starter... Battery is charged, got voltage everywhere, but when I turn the key to start, nada, now when I turn the key to start and measure the voltage to the starter... i'm getting less the 1 volt dc....  so, bad starter key switch ? haven't tried jumping out the switch yet since I got the cover apart and don't want the thing spinning on me if it does work lol Thanks ahead fer input

     First thing to do on any electrical issue is to clean all electrical connections. Take a look at the wiring diagram in this manual. If you still have questions post away, let us know how you do.

I'm not sure I understand what you're referring to about not wanting to jump it. Are you talking about a cover on the starter itself? If so, it must be fully assembled to work. The cover on the engine (blower housing)? If so, it won't matter for a short duration if the engine starts or put it back on. Belt cover? shouldn't matter just to get the engine started.

 

Take it OUT of gear, use a jump box or jumper cables. Make sure you have a good ground and touch the positive lead to the post on the starter. Starter is good if it turns the engine.

Measure voltage out of the switch and/or at the solenoid while turning the key into the start position.

More info on your tractor would be helpful for internet diagnosis.

Is there a solenoid in the start circuit or is this one of those high amp "straight through" type switches that doesn't require a solenoid? Is this a new switch or the one that was in there before the engine swap? The HH70 is not the original engine but works the same as the H60.

Pictures never hurt either. Helps us to see what you're talking about or referring to plus we may see something in them which could help.

incase anyone is still looking at this, it turned out the "new" starter was actually fried... replaced, and now all good... starting wise.. lol
