C81 where to start

I just picked up a c81 with a mower deck and plow for $300..not sure if it runs but looks good.  I washed it up and 1st step is a battery...any suggestions on how I should proceed or what to look for?  Or if it was worth $300?

Think you did GREAT C81 my favorite tractor....not so much for the mower... but it is a bear for pushing snow and doing chores around the property, good fuel, clean carb and a good set of points and you will have one (in my opinion) one of the best machines made.

North. :WRS:  Looks good in picks. Get a battery from Walmart or Home Depot same price. just to see if you have spark. Then maybe change the fuel lines and filter. Buy good fuel line $3.00 to $4.00 a foot, start it  and see where you are at. Let us know how things are.

Three hundred bucks well spent! Check, change fluids, fuel, cleanup and you'll be on your way!

That looks like an outstanding deal. As already suggested I would do a tune up, fuel lines and filter, fresh fuel, engine oil, flush transmission and fresh oil.:)

I'd say you gotta a sweet deal on your horse!  She's definitely worth putting a few $ in to get her going.  Looks complete except for air filter and cover.  And you'll need a couple of mower deck wheels.

 

With a little diagnosis you should have her runnin' in no time.  After you get a battery hooked up, check for spark and compression.  Then go through the fuel system.  I don't know how long it's been setting, but I would check the shutoff valve in the bottom of the fuel tank for rust and crud before putting any gas through it.

      Hello all. I am looking for suggestions on adapting the pto from my C series tractor to a harbor freight predator 420 13hp engine. I know the predator motors are a controversial topic however it is the route I have chosen for this particular machine. The intent was to mostly use it for plowing so no PTO required but it would be handy to have. Looking to hear from someone that has successfully done the swap that may offer any advice before I attempt to transfer it over.       1979 c-101 nice project tractor just needs a few odds and ends, steering wheel, coil, carburetor bowl, the wiring was redone by previous owner....all 4 tires are good and hold air it goes into all gears no problem, transmission fluid has been changed, 10hp Kohler, message me or call or txt with any questions, it does run and runs well,  it’s been kept inside since I’ve had it, I would also trade for a mid mount grader blade thanks

      I have what I believe is a Commando 800 but would like to confirm model and year.  Tag reads Model # 1 0100 6; Serial # 790336. Have had it for years (bought from original owner) and want to clean it up some.
