416-8 Gas tank shut off

How difficult is it to remove the shut valve from the gas tank. Do I just pull it out ? I don't want to mess up the tank since a new one is close to $200.00.

Jim,

I just pull and twist the old ones out.The tank is pretty robust in that area. The shutoff is bulbous where it resides in the tank but has no sharp edge.A little oil when inserting a new one will help.JAinVA

Jim, I did the same as JA did.  No problems at all.

Thanks  guys. Not sure what is wrong with valve but it will not completely shut off. Found out the problem when trying to replace the gas line. I dislike the under seat tanks. I did not want to mess up the tank before  I can find a tank  to mount it behind the seat. I am planning on adding an electric actuator  to move a clevis hitch. Went thru hell mounting one on my 310-8 and do not want to repeat all the fun I had.

I always change the rubber grommet too.Cheap insurance to prevent a gas leak.

Your shut off valve is probably corroded.  Been there done that.

Great topic! I need to replace mine as well and run new gas line hose. Sounds as simple as replacing a GM w/s washer pump and grommet.   :handgestures-thumbupright:
