Why the muffler stacks out the side..

Recommended Posts

Phatboy

This question has always puzzled me,,why so many put stack mufflers out the side of the hood,, does it help the motor perform better ? More power ? Less carbon on piston do to more heat on the piston from the decreased back pressure ?  Let me know ,, i often wondered bit never knew the answer,, or is it a nostalgic look to make look like old farm tractors and nothing more,,, ok guys let me know ,, thanks..

I personally do not like the look .But hey that is just me. There is place for every thing. That is why these are so much fun you can do what ever your imagination comes up with.

Yea most of the time I don't usually care for it but my 856 has one(the way I bought it) and between the stack, ags, tri bars, non original paint here and there I just call it my lil farmer so I will keep the stack til it gets restored...

Personally I love the look...my wife doesn't care for it and is trying to talk me out of it but I plan on putting one on my 1277 after I get her all fixed up

I went with stacks on my Predator swapped D series because finding a muffler that would fit as a stock one would is near impossible (and expensive), plus I have plans for a single wire alternator to sit in the space a muffler would typically sit on my tractor.  So I did it out of need and I think they look cool :)

If a tree branch hits the stacks on any of my tractors, it's going to hit me too...

Sometimes it is just because you can get one for 30 bucks vs 80 for the oem and it looks cool is a plus. That's how my 310 got one.

I think this is why most go with a stack: https://www.rcpw.com/search/?quest=106918

I was going to do a stack too, but luckily the parts mower I got had a good original muffler.  I'm DAMN sure not shelling out $200 for a part that probably costs less than $20 to make.

Mosquito control :handgestures-thumbupright:

I remember running after the DDT spraying trees in the Bronx, NYC.

Fun. Grandsons like the sound and my stacked Kohler doesn't even smoke :)

Much better to go through the hood rather than around it!

can whlvr

i like stacks but my last one i caught on a limb and broke the elbow that threads into the block and destroyed the muffler also,it happens fast,so i recommend that they be used on non workers or places with no trees
