60's engineering

I guess the in the 60's , designers assumed grease fitting threads would never strip .

Almost 50 years later , mine were .

Problem is they drilled the tube for the shear-pin & Zerks before the flutes were welded on :wacko:

Thread were stripped & the drill chuck made it impossible to drill & tap these squarely for the new zinc coated 5/16 X 24" Zerk threads .....What to do ScratchHead_zps3qefw6gv.gif

Make a 2 foot 15/64" drill bit . THAT'S WHAT !  Red-neck engineering at its finest :techie-eureka:
