Help ID RJ-35...

Needing some help here...

definitively IDing the year of my new RJ-35.

I'm thinking, based on the rolled steel frame, no evidence of a gas tank support, and it has the front axle stops in place...

it's from the '56 model year. Also, can someone help determine the original engine it would've left the factory with?

For reference...I'm going to dump here, all the picts I've taken today...any help would be greatly appreciated.   :text-thankyoublue:IMG_5164.JPGIMG_5162.JPGIMG_5163.JPGIMG_5137.JPGIMG_5138.JPGIMG_5139.JPGIMG_5146.JPGIMG_5149.JPGIMG_5134.JPGIMG_5135.JPGIMG_5171.JPGIMG_5172.JPGIMG_5173.JPGIMG_5159.JPGIMG_5160.JPGIMG_5161.JPGIMG_5150.JPGIMG_5151.JPGIMG_5153.JPGIMG_5167.JPGIMG_5168.JPGIMG_5169.JPG

Can't answer what year, but it's cool.  I'd be happy to own it.

Too bad a PO turned that frame into swiss cheese.

Looks like they got off on stick welding too!

That will make a nice project.

For sure a 1956 and more than likely it came with a Clinton 1200 2184 3.6 HP with a Schnacke recoil. Very nice find there....even has the brake kit which was a option and has the original correct tires. Let me know if you need any pics of a original for reference.

Your "red" hood is ¾ of the original hood.  You'll need to section the rear part of the rusty one to it.   Bolts in the rear hub?  That'll be a surprise!   The engine that was put in it must have been way too big ... that's why the hood is cut and the hood stand moved forward.   I would like to have seen the contraption that was welded to the back.

Reminds me of this Honda I bought at auction.....

:text-coolphotos:         You could take the two hoods apart at the seam where the nose joins the hood top.  The dented up hood nose will make a Kool wall hanger, perhaps a clock surround.

Do you have any idea what '56 or earlier car emergency brake cable was used for the brakes on the RJ-35?

Believe it or not, the nose of the rusty hood isn't the worst part of it ...

also has some pretty serious rips around the gas fill opening, and four mega holes for the bolted on gas tank straps.

Thinking the only good part of it might just be the back half I need to fix the other.

Nice tractor Craig.  Want to throw it in my truck at the big show:D?  By the way you're killing me with the whole new profile pic thing.  I keep wondering who it is!!!  Love the pic man!

NICE!!

According to the list I have the RJ-25 came with a Briggs 2.5hp, the RJ-35 with either a Kohler K-90 or a Clinton 1200 (1290). Martinos book concurs with that.

The hole for the oil drain in the frame...

can help you determine which engine it left the factory with.

I see the hole Craig. From what I'm reading it was probably whatever they had at the time. I'm sure the RJ gurus can shed some light on it.

Good point! The K-90 would have been centered. Even being a Kohler fan a Clinton just seems right to me for some reason on those oldies. Looking at N3PUY's I don't see a hole for the drain.  :)

On the RJ Senior (1956) it is a Ford Model A brake cable.

It has a hole .... see pic.   It's obscured by the bracket.     The motor on my RJ35 is a HS50.

Motor mount holes and oil drain hole.   All other holes are PO installed.

That stands to reason, the whole RS drive train was repurposed Ford Model "A" wasn't it?
