Short Block

Recommended Posts

Gentlemen,

What is included in the purchas of a short block?

A man in the next town has 4 HP to 11 HP Tecumsech short blocks for sale for $40 to $85. I am only somewhat mechanically inclined. Would a novice like myself have a chance at removing parts from my 6 HP Tecumsech and putting them on the short block?

Also, would purchasing a 6HP short block for about $50 be a good buy?

Thank you again for your advice and technical information.

Dave

Hey dave,

Are the short blocks new? I think $50 doesnt sound bad for a new short block..

I would just check to make sure things like the starter mounts are the same ...also the crankshaft diameter,,and lenths. ..

Its real easy to do, the hardest thing will be timing the engine, other than that it's a breeze. We will help you if you decide to jump in it! :D

P.S Nice set of headlights....worth every penny! :hide:

Mike,

Does a short block consist of a crank shaft and piston, rings and valves already installed in it?

Dave, as far as I know yes a short block has all that.

Hope the little range is a simple fix :hide:

A short block is a block and everything internal to it, ie piston, rod, crankshaft, camshaft, if its a flat head it will have the complete valve train. You bolt on your existing head, intake and exaust, ignition and flywheel to complete the engine. $50 is a fantastic deal for a complete 6 horse shortblock. Especialy if its an H60, those were discontinued 3 years ago. I just picked up Farmers Exchange Last H60 shortblock myself. Paid rather more than $50, dangit!

:D Dave-I'd be a little suspicious of a new short block for $50. It would cost more for just the parts inside of it, let alone the whole assembly. BUT-if you find it to be true-BUY ALL OF THEM YOU CAN BUY!-AL :hide:

I was too late! :hide:

I'll never know what all was included because all of them have been sold.

Mike had a good question. Does anyone know if rings can be purchased for an H 60?

Thanks for all of the information. I really never really knew what all a short block should include. I do now.

Yes - most parts are still available for the H, HM, and HH models.

A ring set is around $20.00 the last I checked.

You'll need to visit you local Tecumseh dealer (or find one online) to know for sure.
