Glad you got it sorted. Nice to be able to do it yourself and avoid the dealer and time with the tractor away from home! Saving $$$$ too!!

We have lots of drains like that on larger pumps at work.

I install plugs into the valves though so oil does not get accidentally drained.

Looking good.

:text-goodpost:     I agree with Cleat.  I would feel a lot better with a plug in the valve.

Yep, I have valves on gear box oil drains...always install a plug!

I am glad to see you get to root cause.  I think I have one of those same leaking nipples on my 314 with Kohler Command Pro.  Once again an aluminum block.  I have been living with the slow leak for 2 years-but it does make quite a mess especially when the sticky oil mixes with dust from dry grass.

What did you use (mfg/brand) for pipe dope on the threads?

Always use a plug with a little Teflon tape. Live 'n learn.

I've seen a few puddles of oil, ask the grandsons!

They really should have come with these to begin with.  Not the best planning, since they are pretty cheap.

The newer mowers do, and I don't like them. They're a spring-loaded 1/4 twist nightmare.

I do use and promote the hell out of Fumoto oil drain valves. I put one on each car I have at the first oil change. Spring loaded 1/4 turn stainless and brass ball valve, with a safety clip. Makes for a toolless oil change if the filter isn't screwed on too tight. Another bonus - I install them with a small amount of RTV so I prevent any further leaks from the drain plug area.
