Sprocket on the shaft of the Snow Blower

Need help again!

The sprocket on the shaft connected to the back of the snow blower is loose. It has two hex set screws that are impossible to remove at this point. I already broke a tool in one of them.

Any suggestions on how to fix?I was going to drill out and re-tap the holes, but I cannot figure out how to get the end of the shaft assembly apart to get the sprocket off. I guess I could get it welded in place, but wanted to hear what some of your ideas was to fix.

Thanks Everyone...Rob

If you have time, I would soak the set screws with PB Blaster for a week, then try to remove them with the correct size allen socket that is new or ground sharp on the bottom. Tap the socket into the set screw before attempting to turn it.   There are also tapered (easy out type) allen tools available that can be driven into the head of a damaged set screw.

You could also try heat with these same tools.

If you can't get it out, you should be able to drill it out with a carbide drill bit

.The jack shaft should slide out if you unbolt and remove  the bearings at both ends and remove the drive pulley.

larger sized torx bits can sometimes work great at removing stripped allen headed bolts. Pound it in as far as possible and keep pressure on your ratchet while attempting to turn and break free the stripped bolt.

ive cut a few off,but in a pinch I would weld it if its in good shape, usually when new sprocket is needed I do everything, bearings, sprocket, shaft, chain, idlers then shes good for many years, for ever if its like this winter for us,no thrower use yet

10HP with 42” blade, C-85 w/cab & 42” Snow Blower, 315-8 w/Ark Loader. Ready for some snow ❄️. Last year had up to 14” in Ohio.
Snow cab windows were fogged up bad and I used MeGuires PlastX, this stuff was easy, apply like wax, rubbing it in and wipe off, amazing how it cleared that plastic window up.

Picked up this Toro Power Max yesterday.  The rake is shot but the gearbox is good and the shaft isn't bent.   Why Toro doesn't use shear bolts, I'll never know.

I got hold of a Wheel Horse snow blower model 6 6212. It has the crank with cable to direct the shoot. Everything is there but the spool the cable is wound around. Can someone tell me the dimensions of that spool. Diameter and length. Thank you.
