Traded for a GT-14

Recommended Posts

Traded a Craftsman 42 inch tractor, one like this - but used a whole more - and two more junkers of the same model that would be good for parts.

for this bad boy.  I think it was a good trade.

Nice:woohoo:. I love the one I just got!  Only wish I had a deck on mine, but didn't buy it to mow with anyway - can always use more toys, especially one this tough!

From what the guy I traded with told me, I may have to rebuild the engine or replace it.  I'll check it out when the weather gets a little milder.

Great Horse to groom. Be sure to post updates during your restoration, a very worthy project! :handgestures-thumbupright:

I got snowed out of work yesterday - :D - and so I decided to gather up some Wheelhorses.  The one I traded for - see original post - was the first one I brought in.  Then I went to our family's old barn and gathered up these two pieces of GT-14s.  They have been in the barn for about 20 years.  I may have enough parts to get two GT-14s going.  And maybe not.

:text-coolphotos:             looks like it came with the majority of the three point hitch too.    That was one GOOD trade!                  :handgestures-thumbupright:

Here's some more on the big trade.  The tractor was the GOOD

This is the BAD

And this is the UGLY

100_5400_zpsdq97tinf.jpg

I think this part was put on a shelf then over time it got knocked off and rolled under the tractor.  I know there is a 99.999% chance it is ruined, but I'm going to try to get it loosened up and take it apart.  I have given it a generous application of penetrating oil. Could be educational.

And does this picture of the coil help to identify the year model of Kohler 14 hp motor in the GT-14?

What is it???

I have a GT 14 and it doesn't look familiar to me.

We may need more pics of this to identify it if you don't know what it is.

Ha ha.  I didn't know it was in that bad shape as to be unrecognizable.  It's the pump piston assembly that makes the thing go.

The 8th photo from the top shows the plate on the side of the hoodstand that has the model number and serial number on it.

The ignition coil in the 12th photo is for breakerless ignition that was used 1969, 1970 and 1971 in the GT-14's.

In 1972 and 1973 they used battery ignition.

OK, thanks.

I've never had a Hydrostat apart, so that's why I didn't know what that critter was.

Yep, there it is, plain as day.  I'll have to give it a closer look when I get home.  Thanks.

876wheelhorse,

Sorry you had to trade your GT 14 off. I've owned one for 35 years and its my mowing work horse.

I'm in north central Indiana, half way between Ft. Wayne and Indy, and I'm kinda shopping around for another GT 14 within a reasonable distance from me.

Sounds like you may have qualified.....wish I had known.

I would have paid cash.

C'est la vie.

Regards,

Steve
