Duff 206 #5 Posted December 6, 2008 Uh, yeah. Me too, what are ring chains? I THINK I know,but.... most times when I thinks, all that happens is I get a headache..... :horseplay: If they're what I think they are, loggers use them in this neck of the woods on skidder tires. The cross links terminate in an "X" fashion at large steel rings at the center of the tread. Imagine taking a pair of cross links that are beside each other, cutting them each in half, then reattaching the four pieces to one steel ring. Am I making any sense? I'm not sure what the adantage is, but the big skidder operators seem mighty fond of them. Duff :hide:
rwilson 128 #6 Posted December 6, 2008 the big ring in the middle of the cross links usualy have 4 pices of 5/8's steel welded to them to get better grip on frozen and muddy terrain. but any kind of chain on tires usualy helps traction. i have also seen tire chaines that the cross links are rings usualy have 2 rings per link. these cross links are just strait across like regular chaines. Nick 13 #7 Posted December 6, 2008 I think some chains have a ring in the middle of the tire for traction and also used on ag lug tires so they dont fall down between the lugs. But theres also chains that are just made from rings. Ring chain http://professionaltirechains.weissenfels....Multifixed-Ring http://whinny.org/redfordloggingsupplyskidderchains.htm Double ring chains http://tirechain.com/Double-Ring-detail.htm These chains look like they would bite into anything. http://www.novainternationalltd.com/skid_chains.php
