OK ... Back to the 1045 subject

Recommended Posts

BPjunk

Now that turkey day is over we can get back to the subject of when the model 1045 was actuly produced. :hide:

To help get this information I will need serial numbers of the model 1045. :D The serial number will be on a small white decal on the hood stand, if you have the serial number reply to this post. :omg:

What I can tell you is that Wheel Horse started to produce their "new" models at the end of the company's fiscal year which is in the month of September. :hide:

It just comes down to this I suppose. No matter what model it is....1045,875,1054...etc.

Is the third number the year? Or is it the 4th? :hide:

One of those numbers means electric start ...right? :D

I thought the 4th number was the year of production and the 3rd number was the tranny. Why is this in question? Im :hide:

Bill Ive been trying to round up some serial numbers with that type of tag mounted on the side of the tower ...so far it falls in line after some of the 1964 models, maybe with more data we can figure out more

Model - Serial

-604 -7859

-654 -15561

-1045 -21533

-1045 -22018

-1045 -22141

-1045 -22494

We need more 604, 654 and 704 numbers plus anyone who has a 1045

Michael,

I am in the need of model 1045 serial numbers only, it will be these serial numbers that I can get the starting date for the production of the model 1045. From what has been found already ..... the 1045 may have had production started as early as fall of 1963.

great! :hide: ..I was thinking since the label was the same type as some of the 64 models it might help to see where they fell in line. (because im guessing the 1045 serials are running in sequence with these models) Just from what Ive seen but Im not 100% on this yet,,,but it appears the serial numbers restart with different frame types..anyway I figure it out one day ,,,Im composing a spreadsheet with serial numbers from every tractors I that i can find, so far thing are lining up better than I expected

Cant wait to see the end results! :D :hide:

So were to assume the 1045's started in the 21xxx?

If you subtract the lowest serial number we have on record in here from the highest serial number....there are 961 tractors in between.

Be pretty cool of we could verify that 1100 mark. We're close now :hide:

You can't just subtract the serial numbers, well... not typically anyway. Wheel Horse used a consecutive numbering, but had multiple models on the lines at the same time. The different models were written in different colors of ink in the production ledgers. For example... In one day they would build a run of 25-603s followed by 50-633s followed by 10-753s and then another 25-603s. It all depended on what was ready and available to go on the line, as well as what needed to be built for shipping. Give Bill some time with this, get him as many serial numbers as possilbe. He will get an answer, but he (or someone) is going to have to spend time looking at those pages of the old ledgers. And from what I understand... theres a bunch of them and they have several hundred hand written pages each.

Once again I regret not keeping records of what I buy and sell. Around November of last year I sold a 1045 on ebay that went up to WI or maybe it was MN. Maybe next time I'll keep the pictures and serial numbers. :hide:

There are no distributable copies of the ledgers, nor will there be any made. I've asked. They are in the Wheel Horse Master Engineering File archive at Toro, and there they'll stay. I offered to organize and make a database for free and was told there is not enough justification (for Toro's money) to spend time copying or computerizing them at this point. It would take too long for no significant useful purpose.

Bringing this back to the top.

49725 is the highest 1964 serial recorded so far but may not be accurate. It appears they ended 1964 production building model 1054's  and started 1965 production building 1054A's and owners possibly don't know which model they have. The 1965 serials continued on from the 1964 serials. The numbers did not start over.

44225 is the highest 1045 serial recorded so far

22987 - Somewhere in this batch of 1045's there must have been a break or two as the numbers span 1482 units - well past the 1100 total units produced.

22929 - Added

22797

22781

22759

22628 - Added

22494

22296 - Added

22168

22144

22141

22036

22018

21896

21872

21819

21818 - Added

21781

21663

21626

21555 - Added

21533

21532

21510

21505

03301 Lowest 1964 serial recorded in this 2nd series of serial numbers that ran for about 46,424 units

A-75181 Highest serial recorded in the 1st series of serials that used the left-over decals from 1963.

A-50086 Lowest serial that ran for about 25,095 units.

46,424 - 2nd series

25,095 - 1st series

71,519 -  Total 1964 units recorded so far.

25,095 - 1st series plus

21,505 - early 1045

46,600 - units built when 1045 production started

46,600 - units built when 1045 production started divided by

71,519 - total 1964 units =

1045 production started approximately 65% of the way through 1964 production.

Keep in mind attachment serials are included in these numbers.

Although the 1045 is a 1964 model there must have been a fair number in inventory when the 1965 models were released because they included the 1045 in a 1965 manual.

My 1045 is serial number 21510 and appears in your list.  My 854 is serial number is 40927.  I was under the impression that the 1045's are early '65 models built in '64 with the '65 style hood.  My straight from the horse's mouth book lists the 1045 as a '65 model also.  Sorry, I'm not trying to stir up another debate on this subject, but it seems like this issue is still not "settled".

Here is my 1045 with a rare RM-425 mower deck.
