PTO Clutch

Recommended Posts

fordsonmajortom

I took my PTO clutch apart on my Raider 14 and found that the 4 bolts that secure the clutch plate to the crankshaft were loose. One bolt had come out so far it was starting to grind its way through the clutch housing. Its going to be refitted with spring washers and locktite . It might be wise if anybodys clutch hasn't be off for years to check it.

From the factory they came with a sheetmetal tab with corners that bend up to stop the bolts backing out (like they have on connecting rods).

Must've been a problem right from the start...

This clutch was fitted with the flange headed lock bolts the ones with the serrations under the head. I suspect you should perhaps only use these once only. the two plates they lock on to that locate the bearing sleeve look to be better than normal steel so take the edge off the serrations. The clutch plate has probobly been renewed in the past.
