D160 Parts info needed

Recommended Posts

There's a 1976 D160 with mowing deck for sale near me that has a bad trans hydro pump and needs a coupler for $550.  Are the needed parts available and what would I have to spend to get them?

Hard to say, maybe a few hundred?
Plus your time to fiddle with it which I am finding lessor and lessor of.
Used parts are available on eBay.

Complete running machines are out there for reasonable money.
I have 2 D-160s and paid $500 for each.
One needed a starter rebuilt and the other just needed a few minor adjustments.
One came with a plow, wheel weights on all fours, a mower deck, and a cement weight on the back.
The other came with a mower deck and a 3 point hitch.
They both have the ONAN BF/MS twins and they both start and run great.
They both are the same year so one can serve as a spare for the other if anything goes wrong.
I could probably build a third with all of the extra parts I have accumulated.

Finding a GOOD used pump is not easy.  i have collected at least 4 all supposedly came from "Good Working tractors"...All had significant issues...If you have the time and desire you can fix then yourself, several threads here about that.  Having them fixed is prohibitively expensive.  If the hydro pump is shot I can virtually guarantee the hydro motor will have issues also.  These are not the easiest machines to work on, I think WH started with the hydro pump and assembled the tractor around it.

Other weak spots to check are the steering and look at the transaxle case bottom to see if there are any signs it was welded/repaired (indicates a bolt came out of the differential and cracked the case.)
