857 Transmission. LoL!! "not so good"

So I'm not a fan of any brand or tractor.
My goal was to get something with a horizontal shaft engine that I could put a 18HP vanguard engine in.
I would like to use this for grass and snow removal.
Also farting around in the woods.
I got the tractor from my Dad who did nothing but let it rot in the yard. He got it from some guy.The shifter boot was ripped and well you can see what that did.
So what do you guys think?
The gears look OK but all the bearings are junk.
Ill open the diff tomorrow........

Looks like a very re-buildable transmission to me. Bearings are usually stainless steel, or chrome steel and unless they are actually damaged, they will clean up nicely. If you do need bearings, most are still available with the exception of the 1533, and there are some good used ones of them available.

I hope you put up some pictures of that differential when you open it.  It was nice talking with you tonight.  Maybe give us a picture of that horse.  Thanks.:handgestures-thumbupright:

The rust colored water reminds me of the "coffee" I'd drink in high school - glad to see you're keeping a family piece in the yard.
Good luck - many here will point you in the right direction.
I loved you in "The 'Burbs".

Thanks for the input. still haven't decided what I'm going to do with this.
There are some other ones for sale in town.
How do the hydraulic drives hold up?
