Need some help with a C-160

Horsing Around RS

Ok guys I'm stumped. I have a 1975 C-160 and I have a couple problems with it.
1. There is a voltage draw on it some where, even when the key is off. - not a huge problem
2. After the tractor has been running awhile, it turns itself off and cannot be restarted again until it has cooled down. The starter will not even engage. I have replaced the coil and condenser. It has a new battery too.
The system is charging. I asssume it needs a new starter because once it gets warm it no longer works. But I do not know why it would turn itself off.

I am not sure if these 2 issues are related but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure why it would shut down-I had a tractor that would run great for anywhere from 20 minutes to several hours then shut down. It turned out to be trash in the fuel tank. As far as not turning over, have you checked for current at the solenoid when you turn the key to start?? Also, do you have current at the coil when it shuts down??

Find a way turn the engine over by hand - figure this out before it gets hot - Have a socket/ratchet with you to try and turn the flywheel when it stops. Could possibly be "seizing" caused by overheating (clogged cooling fins, bad/old/low oil, etc) If you can turn the motor by hand right after it stops then continue on chasing something else. If unable to turn over until cooled then you have got some serious problems, once an engine seizes it scores the piston, collapses the rings and possibly mars the cylinder wall.

Pacer: Engine does turn over by hand after it stops running. Thanks
Squonk: I will check the amp meter. I guess that could be a draw. Thanks
Chip61: The fuel is clean. Thanks

Thanks for trying to help guys.

Everything electrical goes thru that ammeter. I have seen the connections the melted, burnt, corroded ect. Things get hot and break apart.

Hello all. I am looking for suggestions on adapting the pto from my C series tractor to a harbor freight predator 420 13hp engine. I know the predator motors are a controversial topic however it is the route I have chosen for this particular machine. The intent was to mostly use it for plowing so no PTO required but it would be handy to have. Looking to hear from someone that has successfully done the swap that may offer any advice before I attempt to transfer it over. Just looking for any general pointers that will help me along the way to make it go as smoothly as possible.

1979 c-101 nice project tractor just needs a few odds and ends, steering wheel, coil, carburetor bowl, the wiring was redone by previous owner....all 4 tires are good and hold air it goes into all gears no problem, transmission fluid has been changed, 10hp Kohler, message me or call or txt with any questions, it does run and runs well,  it’s been kept inside since I’ve had it, I would also trade for a mid mount grader blade thanks

Will the plow I am using on my C121 and C160 work on a 876?
or is the plow frame different?
      Thanks

      Hi All,

I have what I believe is a Commando 800 but would like to confirm model and year.  Tag reads Model # 1 0100 6; Serial # 790336. Have had it for years (bought from original owner) and want to clean it up some.

      Thanks!
