Thompson8114 30 #1 Posted June 21, 2015 Just finished all body work and got my dads 77 C 160 Automatic running after 6 years of sitting in a barn. She fires up nice but blows the dipstick out when it turns over. When I push it back down it stays sealed. Have pulled the breather there is oil laying in there. My small engine experience is limited to this project so I'm learning as I go.
JAinVA 4,617 #2 Posted June 21, 2015 After six years in an unheated space sounds like stuck rings. You can try something like Marvel Mystery oil, leave the dipstick loose and run engine for awhile to seeif the rings free up.If the rings don't free up and allow less blowby then it sounds like you may need to tear the engine down. Not that difficult but a gasket set and maybe new rings need to be on hand.JMHO opinion,Luck JAinVA
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,444 #3 Posted June 21, 2015 I have one that does that. Have blamed it on the rubber seal on the stick aging because when I swap with another engine the problem follows the dipstick. My fix so far has been to bend the stick handle so it hits the hood and can't blow out. Kohler is fairly proud of their replacements.Garry
Thompson8114 30 #4 Posted July 3, 2015 Thanks for the input!! Can I get a replacement stick from Koehler or just the seal?
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,444 #5 Posted July 3, 2015 If 71128 is your engine's spec numberhttp://www.partstree.com/parts/kohler-engines/engines-horizontal/k341-71128-kohler-k341-engine-k-series-wheel-horse-16hp-11-9kw-specs-71105-71384/The dipsticks have their own page.Garry
