Wheelhorse Bronco 1972 14hp Kohler no spark

I have no spark, and am new to this, i tested the coil and there is no amperage, I also did the spark plug block test..., no spark. But cranks perfectly, and lights work great, Any Ideas what could be the the official problem?

For test purpose, run a jumper wire from Battery + to the + side of the coil and see if you have spark. If you do, back track to the ign. switch. Must have 12 volt to the + side of the coil.

Hey whnut, I appreciate you getting back to me, I did the test that you said and I am not getting spark that way either, just to let you know I have a brand new coil, spark plug, spark plug wire, and battery hooked up

Remove the spark plug so you can easily turn the motor over by hand.

Turn the ignition key to RUN

Check for voltage at the (+) coil terminal. If yes

Check the voltage at the (-) coil terminal as you rotate the engine slowly by hand for at least 2 complete revolutions. When the ignition points are closed there should be no voltage. When the points are open there should be voltage. This happens once for every 2 revolutions of the crankshaft.

 

If the voltage does not go to 0 volts the point contacts need to be cleaned with a file or crocus cloth. There will be invisible oxidation on them preventing electrical contact. Point gap should be .018" to .020" when they are open at their widest point.

 

The condenser connects to the (-) coil terminal along with the points.

Power from the ignition switch goes to (+) coil terminal.

 

Let us know what you find.

I am convinced with the test you mentioned that the points need to be cleaned, where Exactly are they located, are they inside of the engine too? I found the casing on the front of the engine and some metal mechanism inside, I am having a hard time finding any pictures, I appreciate your help

Hey Garry, just wanted to let you know that the problem was the points gap, and they needed cleaned, I also cleaned up the magneto and the flywheel, it runs perfectly, thank you all for your time and help

Glad to hear you have it fixed. If the battery powers the ignition coil this is called a battery style ignition so you won't have a magneto. Magneto ignitions are self-powered and any battery power to them burns up the magneto coil. Very important to identify the type of ignition used in case you have other gasoline powered equipment.

      Need some help. My 800 Special has an electric PTO. It is not working. Checked Ohms - nothing. My questions are 1) how does the PTO come off and 2) can they be rebuilt? I took the bolt out that I thought holds it on but no luck. Must be something more?

      Hi, here's what happened. I changed out 9 pin moles plug...had issues tracter quit running and changed the plugs while I was at it....got plugs from auto store cross reference to ngk they said it was the same heat range and I check electrod  length with calipers ,same...tracter started right up and ran great for about 10 min. And started back firing and quit.....going to check it out tonite anybody have an idea?

      hello all I'm a new owner of a 312-8 tractor, have starting problems, came across a very small, what I believe is a relay between the battery and the dash,its about 2/3rd size of a cube of sugar silver on the outside blue on top with a hole bout the size of a pea, theres 6 pins with wires connected to it on the bottom do not know what this is any thoughts? I cannot determine the exact year of this machine for there is no tag anywhere only tag on engine kohler magnum md #m12s   ser# 170370459  spec#  471527  I figure its mid to late 80s to early 90s. of all the wiring diagrams ive looked at it does not show any thing like what I just described also can that little circuit board be removed that's like a test point for idiot lights? any help would be appreciated  jeff
