grinchsr 591 #1 Posted April 4, 2015 (edited) I am doing a complete service on a recently purchased 520xi and wanted to service the front wheel bearings but I can't seem to get the dust covers ( hub caps ) off. I was beat by a hub cap how humbling that is. Is there a secret to getting these things off without cracking them? I had pry bars on both sides of it trying to pop it off with no luck. I could take the machine apart and put it together again but I cannot get the caps off. Edited April 4, 2015 by grinchsr
shallowwatersailor 3,213 #2 Posted April 5, 2015 They just pop off. The plastic is pretty sturdy and you need to get behind it. It pops over the 95-4060 washer.
Tim 97 #3 Posted April 5, 2015 its cold try using a heat gun or a hair dryer to make them more pliable
grinchsr 591 #4 Posted April 5, 2015 THANKS for the tips. I guess I was not aggressive enough with the pry bar because I did not want to break it. A heat gun will help.
shallowwatersailor 3,213 #5 Posted April 5, 2015 (edited) I just carefully use the claw of a hammer and make sure that I'm just on the plastic. We're probably a bit warmer down here. Edited April 5, 2015 by shallowwatersailor
