New 1994 264H 100 hours Question (pictures)

Recommended Posts

I bought this 1994 264H off craigslist. The seller had taken it in trade for some automotive work he had done for the original owner.

Looks like the owner took good care of it and I will do the same.

I have a question.

I ran it around for about ten minutes after getting it home and the top of the transaxle between the rear wheels is smoking a little.

The seller greased everything and changed all of the fluids prior to selling it so I assume he could have spilled some fluid on the case.  Does the hydo-transmission on these get hot enough to smoke if there were fluid spilt on top of them?

Also, there is a slight high pitch squeal while the PTO is engaged, I assume this is a belt that needs adjusting. Am I correct?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Andy

Thank you for the welcome and for the links.

I will look to see if I can find the operating temperature of the transmission.

I dont want to ruin my machine, so I stopped running it until I can figure out if it is supposed to be getting hot enough to smoke.

Here is another version of the transmission service manual published by Tuff Torq. I have not compared it to the Toro version.

Thank you for the Welcome 953 nut.

I need to mow my field for Easter weekend. I will recheck all the fluids and see how it goes.

Do I need to check the fluid inside the transaxle case or just the transmission resevoir under the hood?

Thanks again,

I have seen a cooling fan in the manuals for the 264, I will locate it tonight and ensure it is turning. Thanks!
