I can tell you that the winter of '64 I was stationed at Great Lakes Naval Station and it was MY all time record cold winter. Don't know if it was a record for them, but it was for me. For about a week we were confined to our WW2 era barracks because they were afraid of frost bite. Classes were held there and meals delivered to us. stevasaurus 22,197 #8 Posted February 28, 2015 Dang...in 1964, I was walking 2 miles (up hill both ways) to High School...and that was to the YMCA , about 2 blocks from the school so I could practice on the swim team 1 hour before school started.
