Grease Fitting Size on Single Stage Snow Thrower

Does any body know what the grease fitting size is on the single stage snow thrower M/N 79360 that services the main shaft? 

 

My guess is 1/4" NPT ?

 

In the process of greasing the snow thrower I managed to get the grease fitting stuck inside my grease gun's nozzle.  I need to re tap the threads on the thrower and I don't want to mess up the threads with the wrong tap.

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could also be 1/4-28.  You should be able to tell by looking at the fitting that is stuck in the gun.  NPT threads are tapered

Thanks.  It is 1/4" thread.  I'll look for a Tapered tap.

1/8" NPT pipe is .405" in diameter - that is more than 3/8".

1/4" NPT pipe is .540" in diameter - that is more than 1/2"

Pipe sizes are the nominal inside diameter of the pipe.

 

Should be 1/4"-28 which is a 1/4" fine thread like used on bolts and set screws.

The only other fittings that small I have see are metric and I doubt it is one of them.

It appears to be 1/4"-28.  That tap worked well.
