953 Side cover issue

Recommended Posts

It appears that the hydraulic pump has been replaced with a longer one on my 953 and that explains why the guard was off when I got it. I am in the process of doing some wiring work, along with a few other things to get it in condition to jump on it,start and go. Once it is that condition I will do some cosmetic work on it. The problem is right now,I don't want to cut a hole in my cover to accommodate the pump. Did they make a cover with a bumped out area for the longer pump ? Does anyone have a cover that they would get rid of ?

Jim:  That pump is a replacement pump ( I saw the tractor when it was loaded up on the trailer at Rodney Burger's to take to you) .   There was however an original pump used on some of the early 953's that was longer than the replacement Hein-Werner pump.    I have seen photos of a "bump  out" on the side panel of the 953 that accomodated the longer pump.   We actually have a 953 early tractor (in parts ) that had the original longer Hein-Werner pump.

The original pump  canister that held the hydraulic fluid had a regular pipe port on it at the side to refill fluid.   The pump did not have a hex head bolt in the center of the canister to refill.   The  side panel had to accommodate this longer pump and cover the "bump out".   The original panel on our 953 tractor (which was given to us)  had that "bump out" panel removed.

I have not seen one of the panels for sale or in person in the last seven years -only photos.  The easiest thing to do would be to use  the later replacement pump Hein-Werner made  and then the flat side panel will cover it.

Here are some photos I took of the canisters on the Hein-Werner pumps for comparison.   Also your pump is a Century Fox -not Hein-Werner .

Thanks Lane. So is my pump a factory dealer replacement or do you think it was something someone figured out that they could use instead of a dealer replacement pump ?
