slammer302 2,154 #2 Posted December 10, 2014 I would say its the fact that it has the old round rear fenders with the newer square hood and I think they were only made 1 or 2 years
buckrancher 2,660 #3 Posted December 10, 2014 made one year 1965 around 1100 units

WheelHorse79 271 #5 Posted December 11, 2014 (edited) As has already been said, the 1045 was a model that was made for only about 3 months in mid to late '64 to use up parts of the old round hoods. They have the old rounded rear fenders and the newer "square hood" introduced for the '65 models. 1045 tractors also have a special hood, tank stand and drive pulley guard that are unique to this model. So, if you buy a 1045, make sure it is mostly complete even if it is in rough shape. Also, the front tires are a special tread and size that are unique to the 1045, so it is a bonus if the tractor still has them. There is some debate about what the "4" in the 1045 stands for. Some say it represents 1964 since Wheel Horse was already making a 1054 tractor. I believe the "4" stands for a special model, since there was also a 1046 made in 1966, so to me the "5" in 1045 stands for 1965 (early model). All Wheel Horse catalogs also list the 1045 as a 1965 model. Here is a picture of mine, which I bought from a forum member a year ago. I really enjoy my 1045 even though it's "retired" and I don't mow with it. Even though it is a short frame tractor like my 854, it feels much more substantial with the bigger wheels and bigger, taller hood. The 1045 is one of my most favorite of Wheel Horses. Please let me know if you have any additional questions about the 1045. Edited December 11, 2014 by WheelHorse79

Callen 64 #10 Posted December 12, 2014 What is special about the hood?
WheelHorse79 271 #11 Posted December 12, 2014 From an old 1045 thread, BPJunk once said: The hood on a 1964 model 1045 is different from other 1965 to 1967 square hood models, if you compare the front of the 1045 hood where the decal would go to a '65 to '67 you will see the indentations are not the same. That's all I know about the 1045 hood being different, as I have no other "square hood" to compare it to right now.
speedyleedy 205 #12 Posted December 12, 2014 I 've never heard that the hood's where made only for that model of tractor .

Martin 2,130 #16 Posted December 22, 2014 (edited) Lane, my 875 uses a hood without the cutout. Decal just goes right on the hood, no plate. The 1057 and 1277 (1967 long hoods) also don't have a cutout..... Edited December 22, 2014 by Martin
Callen 64 #17 Posted December 22, 2014 Went down to the pic gallery and took a look. Looks like the 1267,1067 and 867 used the plate with 6 slot grille as did all from '68 and '69. Looks like the '65,'66 and the others from'67 used the 7 slot with the decal.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,444 #18 Posted December 22, 2014 Believe this has been discussed in the past. The originals had no hole but by the time replacements were needed headlamps were an option so replacement hoods from parts inventory had the hole. It would have been easier to keep a plate to plug the hole than have 2 styles of hood in stock. Garry
