new to the wheel horse scene (417 A)

Hello to all! im south of Chicago and just picked up my first wheel horse tractor and attachments locally via craigslist. the 417 A came with a snowblower and I also grabbed the 36 tiller. I really don't know much about this stuff but my buddy in iowa said get it before its gone! the tractor has 277 hours on it and the snowblower looks like it has never had snow through it after being installed. the 36 roto tiller was new in the box with all mounting hardware/belts.my goal will be to get the tiller set up for spring since im big into gardening.  happy holidays

I don't think the tiller hardware is correct for attaching on my 417 A so that will be a winter project to sort everything out.

thanks guys! I changed the oil/fuel/air filter and both plugs and it starts right up and runs like a beast

That is a very nice tractor and it is one of the sought after ones since it has the Series II Kohler KT 17 in it. (Pressurized Lubrication). It also has the Eaton 1100 transmission! That low of hours and generally new condition attachments. I am envious!

Nice score. Do you still have the box the tiller came in? It will have a part number on it you can look up

.By the pile of hardwear you have there, Id say its for a vertical shaft.

But I dont think it'll matter as you have the major components there for your app.

You will need the rock shaft / cable for lifting it that goes under the seat and the rear qwik attach.

That 417A and blower are about as nice as you will find.

 

That model tiller is for a vertical shaft 260 Series Wheel Horse tractor.  There may be a way to adapt it.

Your 417 with so few opertaing hours is probably the best tractor find on Red Square this year. Take good care of it, keep it inside, change the oil every 25 hours, and it will run for another 25 years years at least.

I really enjoy my 1985 417A. I think you will enjoy yours as well!

You may or may not wish to change the transmission oil and filter before you use it.

That is a fantastic find! I wish i could find them that nice lookin!

 

The tensioning system does look like its for the wrong tractor, but the bracket that attaches to the tiller looks right.

 

I'm not 100% sure on this but:

It looks like all you need is to make sure you have the rear quick attach bracket that fits the C series and 300,400,500 series, get the correct mid-mount belt tensioner/guide and you should be set!
