bmsgaffer 2,043 #1 Posted November 21, 2014 Just out of curiosity, anyone with a 520-8 have a plow with an extension kit? I have a 48" plow and I was trying to put it on my C-145 8 speed but I only have the bent index lever (the angle lever) from the extension kit so I was just planning on leaving the extension kit on the plow so the handle will work. Kept trying to hook it all up and come to find out the extension kit hits the drive pulley! Anyone else have any experience with this? I am going to try to make up a straight lever from aluminum flat bar to make it till i get my 520 done, but I can tell it wont hold up as well.
Bert 760 #2 Posted November 21, 2014 When I bought a NOS extension kit it came with two blocks and longer bolts to lower the axle bracket for the 520 8. I'm off for work now but i can get a pic and measurement tonight if you'd like.
bmsgaffer 2,043 #3 Posted November 21, 2014 That would be great if you got a chance! Thanks!
Bert 760 #4 Posted November 21, 2014 Hope this helps, I forgot to take a pick of the width. They are 1 1/2" wide.

This could be helpful for people upgrading other models with 520 parts I'm glad this thread came up could my kit have been from 1990? Maybe the newer ones didn't include the blocks? ericj 1,576 #7 Posted November 22, 2014 i wonder why the 8 sp needs to be lowered i'll have to ponder this a little and ask around. now that i think about it somebody told and or show me those blocks awhile back and we couldn't figure out when or why they would be used and figured that they didn't belong with the kit and just got mixed in some were along the line eric j
Bert 760 #8 Posted November 22, 2014 I think is because the trans pulley is a lot lower on the 8 speed then the hydro, likely the reason this tread was started.
bmsgaffer 2,043 #9 Posted November 22, 2014 Yea, what he said. It hits the very low drive pulley on my c-145 8 speed. Thanks for the block measurements! Ive never seen these on any used kit (as im sure the original owners set them aside and forgot about them) I will have to see what I can come up with.
Bert 760 #10 Posted November 22, 2014 I bet your right, they were probably set aside most of the time. They should be easy to make if you have a chunk of steel that thick? May be able to stack some thinner pieces to get the right thickness. Good luck and keep us posted.
Tankman 3,514 #11 Posted November 22, 2014 I used a 48" plow and frame on my 520-8 with the swept axle. Used a standard rear axle mount but, I cut the frame up front and extended it 4-1/2". Had a local sheet metal shop form two channels to fit the plow frame and two 4-1/2" long spacers, formed 12 ga channel to fit the longer ID dimensioned channels. MIG welded the pieces, mounted the plow. Works great. Zero interference frame, tires, pulley.
MalMac 1,328 #12 Posted November 23, 2014 This is good to know, anybody that has a 8 speed that has put a 520 swept axel on will need to use the extension kit when mounting a plow.
