Tire chains

Hi,

I have an olderToro/WH (K301)  and I'm looking for some chains.

Tires say 22 x9.00x 12, but chains seem to go from 20 to 23.

Closest would seem to be 23 x 9.50 x 12

Would I need some kind of tighteners to make those work?

Should work. Most chains are a "max" size they fit. They can be adjusted to smaller sizes, within reason.

FWIW, tire sizes - first number is height of tire. Affects how many side links are needed on the chains. 1-2" smaller can be taken up with the chain adjustment. 2nd number is tire width. Affects how many cross links are needed. A little difference is usually OK, outer ring of the chains will ride slightly higher or lower. Combining different size and width can compound fit issues though. 3rd number is rim size, not relevant to chain fit.

The chains must be tight (snug) against the tire or they will move and may come off.  I have had this happen several times when I was using my former 314 with a plow.  Of course they come off in the middle of when you are plowing and then you have to go back inside and get them back on.  Either buy a chain tightener or use bungee cords to snug up the chain  Another suggestion is to slightly over inflate the tire after the chain is on to get the snug fit.  Just be careful how much psi you put into the tire.  As Steve commented above, you may have to take out one or more cross links and some of the side links to get your chains to fit snugly.

You should measure the height of your tire. Have seen Dico 23" tires used on the 300-Series that are only 22" tall when measured.
