JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,487 #2 Posted October 26, 2014 (edited) On the 520 I just bought. Got it home, filled the gas tank, checking it out. It started spitting and sputtering,, low idle, engage drive wanted to stall. Looked at the fuel filter, dirty as could be. Had a few new filters in the garage,,, two minutes to put it on. Started it up. Running like a top. YES,,,,,,, put a new fuel filter on. Btw,,,,,, when you get the new one, compare it side by side with the old one. Glenn also,,, ck your air filter and pre cleaner,,,,,,, mine was like a dirty dog. Engines need air to operate to. shallowwatersailor 3,213 #3 Posted October 26, 2014 I make it a point with tractors that I buy to change the fuel line. On a classic it is fairly easy by just removing the seat pan and threading it through the cowl depending on the engine. You have to realize that the fuel line used years ago was not intended for ethanol-blended fuel.
KC9KAS 4,741 #4 Posted October 26, 2014 You will never go wrong with replacing a fuel filter, as long as it is a good quality filter. Ran into some "cheap" fuel filters for our motorcycles and the filters soon just fall apart.
