Okay I have a few questions about the snow plows so please feel free to chime in I know someone who has a "workhorse" wheel horse tractor that is a twin cylinder Briggs with a wheel horse plow I'm assuming it has the rear axle bracket for the plow my father in law is getting the tractor since he just wants it for parts he's going to give me the plow and the axle bracket what I'm really wondering is I'm about 99 percent sure it will work with mine but I know I need the extension kit but what I'm thinking of doing is just stretching the frame instead of getting the kit Bc I have the swept front axle I want to set it up with a down force bar but would that be possible if I extended the frame and also if I'm plowing snow on a gravel driveway it's probably better to have it on a chain so that it can float correct ? Any help would be appreciated

The bracket and plow should work with an extension of some sort.

Personally I like the chain for snow (with a hydro lift) because otherwise you either end up lifting the tires off the ground (and loose all ability to steer) on a high spot or you miss a low spot. Some people add a little weight to the plow frame up front if its not digging enough for you.

You probably could extend the frame of the plow. You need to extend the bar where it attaches at the back 4", and add a lift point 4" further back to account for the mounting point having been moved. Also the arm that pivots the plow will have a 4" 'offset' in it below the PTO so that it doesn't hit the PTO when angled left.

Make sure that it is a 48" plow. The 42" isn't wide enough to clear the footprint of the 520 because of the wider tires and you wil just end up compacting the snow as you drive over it.

The frame is 4 1/2" longer when the plow is used with the swept axle.

I have used my front blade with a solid bar linking it to the rockshaft.  It works OK to help maintain my gravel roads, but is not as good as the mid-mount grader blade.

Most useful around obstacles and ditches where the mid-mount blade just cant go.

The link bar (if I remember right) is the same as the one for the grader blade, and attaches to the original lift point with the extension bracket installed at the rear.

It doesn't work well on snow.  The front wheels lose grip when the blade hits a high spot, and steering becomes impossible.

The chain link works best on snow.  If you need more down force, add weight to the blade.
