nad44 0 #1 Posted October 20, 2014 I need some help in repairing the steering on my tractor. The steering gear that is actuated by the gear at the end of the steering column is finally worn out. I have located a replacement gear but need help in understanding how to adjust the gear to properly align with the cam and bolt that secure the gear. Any help will be appreciated

nad44 0 #3 Posted October 24, 2014 I downloaded the service manual and found it quite helpful. The replacement steering rack was purchased and installed . Unfortunately it didn't come with any instructions. The service manual showed how to remove the existing rack but didn't offer any hints on proper alignment. I used the alignment mark on the rack to align the rack with the gear on the end of the short steering shaft. In order to install the drag link, the wheel had to be turned which misaligns the mark on the rack. What I am experiencing is that I can make a tight turn to the left but a very wide turn to the right due to limiting out on the rack. Obviously, I am doing something wrong. What is the correct way of adjusting the rack or drag link? Thanks for any help Dan
