I first use the good pb blaster companies parts washer fluid, then glass blast in a cabinet blaster, does a great job and makes the metal look brand new...not the fastest method but effective

E-tank and elbow grease. Clean with lacquer thinner before priming.

For grease and crud I use undiluted Simple Green. For small parts that stuff will even remove paint if soaked overnight. Then I go to the e-tank. I wipe things down with mineral spirits before painting.

I bought a small cheap media blaster at Northern Tool a couple years ago.  Works o.k. on small jobs if you use the right media.  I don't use it very often so it meets my needs.  YMMV...

For small parts, I use an old crock pot on low setting with simple green and stir occasionally.  Careful, because it lifts paint as well as crud.  And because simple green is water based, parts need to be dried and either promptly painted or coated with fresh oil or wd40 soon after removal.

Power wash, industrial parts washer, not sure whats in it some sort of lye solution that is serviced by Safety Clean, then sand blast.  Finally wipe down with denatured alcohol (strongest you can find) primer then paint.  If I have to store the parts unpainted I use LPS rust inhibitor? its just a light oil.

Also I have started dropping little parts that I really cannot E-tank, wire brush, into a paint cap full of vinegar.  After a couple days the rust lifts right off.

I don't bother with nuts and bolts anymore. I can buy new at Tractor Supply for $2.50 a pound. You get a lot of nuts and bolts in a pound. I also use zinc coated stuff and it is about $4,50 a pound. As for the body parts, I use an acid based paint remover and a paint brush. Simply paint it on and wait a few minutes and using a putty knife scrape it off. Sometimes you have to do a second coat but it really is the easiest way I know to do it. For grease on an engine, I use some spray on degreaser. Comes in a blue bottle. I buy two gallons at a time and pour it into a spray bottle, Then either power wash it or use a garden hose. Also works great.

Search Electolysis Rust and or paint removal.

Basically uses a battery charger, an anode, a cathode and tank of water to remove it.

Been there and did that. It works, but is very slow. For rust I use a my grinder with a wire brush or the bench grinder with a wire wheel. Fast and easy.

I use aircraft stripper and most will come off with the power washer, some plastic scrapers to remove paint. It's much easier than using wire brushes or sandpaper, less costly and labor intensive. You end up with clean metal. There may be some places where you have to use some sand paper or a small sandblaster but a lot less elbow grease. Then it was clean, repair any pitting, primer and paint with hardener.

For the grease and oil I just go to the dollar store and get a gallon of Mean Green and spray it dowm good before and during I power wash it. I see no upside to spend time to clean up bolts, washers and nuts. Like stated above I go to TSC or the local farm store and buy new by the pound.

I used to do this to all of the tractors I had but I did not do "show queens" so unless it needed to have some major parts replaced I didn't completely strip one down. Every now and then I would get a basket case that needed to be taken completely apart but they were rare.
