Onan p220

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone could help me out and send me some pics of how the wiring harness is routed in the onan p220 on a WH 520h? I took it apart to clean the block and can't figure out how to route the harness under the shrouds.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

John, not a p220, but the p216 is almost exactly the same with the wiring. check out some of my pics in the '416 adventures' thread of mine.

start here  

 

 there are a few pics of the old harness still clamped on the engine. most of the harness comes up between the blower housing right where the original coil mounts, there is a small cut out that allows it to pass through....

the new engine harness in my later posts was made the same where it attaches to the engine using the same clamps etc, for the most part it is in the factory location

Next time, take some photos before you take it apart. I learned the hard way that a picture is worth a thousand words. And didn't martin do a magnificent job on that tractor.

As soon as I went to reassemble the engine, I said to myself "I really should have taken pictures!". Too late now:)

Martin, would you happen to have a picture of the top of the engine where the harness comes out of the shroud? That is my problem... I can't figure where the harness exits the shroud. Right now it is coming out near the exhaust pipe heat shields.

see where the white colored insulation on the wires disappears, thats where they come through.......

I have hopefully my last question to get my Horse back in service... Could you send me a pic of how to route the throttle cable please. I'm really learning a lesson on the value of pre-disassembly pics

Might be a few hours before I can get some. Take a look through my 416 thread on the 416-8 speed rebuild, I have a bunch of pics of the engine, you should find different views to work out the path it takes. That's all I was going to do, look at that and then repost the pics here for you to look at. Easy for me if you just go there and look at them. The thread is linked to in my signature below.

Has anyone had problems with their throttle slipping from high speed due to a lack of friction in the lever? If so how did you correct it?

It's a common problem, you can pull the battery and tighten the lever with a pair of vice grips.

Martin,

Is the J-clip in your 1st photo from the hoodstand or front shroud of the engine?

Also, besides the plastic clip on the top shroud of the engine, does the cable attach to the front of the engine at all (ie: j-clip, etc.)?

the j clip is at the hood stand, i ended up modifying the clip with a right angle bend to clear the battery hold down......

 

 

the plastic clip is ONLY for the spark plug wire, the cable just does a nice bend around the front of the engine and is held at the end by the throttle bracket.....

 

 

and the other style electrical clip at the front right engine mounting plate bolt (one that holds the plate to the frame). i also zip tied the harness at that point to the cable as well. i have 2 clips holding the cable as it passes under the pto, one at the front engine plate bolt, and one at the rear.
