Tri Rib Tire Sizes

Recommended Posts

tbarnhart

i have nanco 23x10.50-12. i never measured the height but the width  only measures 9.50. i put a set on 8.5x12 rims, had to put tubes in them to keep them inflated, put them on 7.5x12 rims and they work great. would like to find more, but the dealer i was buying them stopped selling. i believe they were basically the same as deestone and several other ones like them

If you want more nanco tires, just get the deestones.  Same tire with a different name molded on the side. My brother has some nancos on his sears and I have deestones on my horse and they are exactly the same except for the name. All other text and molding on the tire is the same, both made in thailand.

As far as what I put on I haven't seen a tire at all that requires a tube in over 20 years.

vredestein recommend using tubes on the 16 x 6.50-8 V61s (actually sized 170/60-8, metric sizing). over on the weekend freedom machines forum there has been much discussion on this as the larger 18 x 8.50-8s they don't mention about tubes. from the members over there and others having trouble getting them to seal on any style rim, i went with tubes on mine for the 416-8. the minor expense was worth it for me to possibly avoid the aggravation of a slow leaker......

I've run tubes in most of my fronts as the rims are usually pitted on the inside and even when getting a good application of powder on them, they still seem to have slow leaks over a long period. the rears i never have used a tube on any of the good ones, they seem to seal ok. i say if you want to take a chance, don't use tubes, if you don't want to mess around with a potential leak, put a tube in there....

I have been thinking of putting Deestone ags on the back of my 416 and Tri's on the front. But I am confused by the sizes. What sizes would I need and what would the cost be?

I have been checking on line for tires. Deestone 23X8.50-12 are listed as 21 inches in height. I checked 23X10.50-12 but the same dealers do not list the height for them. What's up with that? The size tire needed for the 416-H is 23X950=12 but they are not made in the Agg. tires. Is the 10.5 tire too wide for the 400 series tractor?

Nick, if you want to run ags on your 416 with standard 12 x 7 rims and you are using one of the cheaper brands like deestone or duro, i would recommend you go with the 23 x 10.50-12. the carlisle tires are going to be your only choice if you want closest to the correct size, but even they are under what is on the sidewall.....

i read somewhere that of the cheaper ones, the deestones are slightly larger than the duro tires, but the height on any of them won't be 23 high, they are all undersized.

i used duro 23 x 10.50-12 on my boys 875 and they look great. also used the deestone 4.00-8 tri rib on the fronts, but they used narrow rims on the early tractors and your 416 would have the wider 5.38" wheels.  because the duro are undersized on the width as well they look just right in my opinion on the 7 inch rims.....

thank you Geno. Kent built this one with help from Dad. well to be honest, it took more than just help and also a little 'encouragement'.......

he quickly realized i wasn't going to build it myself, he also realized the tractor wouldnt build itself!!!!

OK, Has anyone used 23X10.5-12 tires on the 400 series tractor? They are used on the 520.

Depending on the brand of tire, these work better with the 8.5" wider rim that came on the later 520's.

All other models came with 7.5" wide rims which dont handle tires that wide.

Nick, like i said earlier, the sizing depends on the brand of tire, they are all different. the 520 mostly had 12 x 8.5 rims and 23 x 10.50-12 tires, (but the older tires are more true to the correct size). when you say on a 400 series, i assume you are talking about 7 inch rims, the 10.50s in the older tires will go on there, but they look bulged out compared to the newer cheaper tires.

my 418 i just finished have 23 x 10.50-12 carlisle all trail on 12 x 8.5 rims, they are a lot closer to the true size than the duro or deestone tire. with ags, you really need to do a lot of digging on sizes to get the info. many members on here have been disappointed with the lack of true size on some of the brands......

agree with you on everything except the narrow rim was a 7 and not 7.5.

I sent this to Nick already but for those of you who want to see a Carlisle 23-850-12 on a 414 rim here it is, I just put these on dads old tractor.  The Carlisle is truer to spec.

Those look good! I am trying to get down to one "worker" tractor (no space), but its hard to pick what type of tire to use on one tractor... I see the need for multiples. Maybe I can swap tires and rims...

Ok, so I do have some choices to make here. I can get the regular size Carlise tires which would be 23x8.5 or the oversize 23x10.5 Deestones, which actually are a bit undersize for the rear. As for the Tri Rib fronts I now have to know what size for the fronts. The 4x8 will not work because it is too narrow.

I forgot too mention, if you are planning on going with big tri ribs like this on your tractor... I put these on my 417 and they no doubt raise the front of the tractor up quite a bit which you can see in the pic. Looks cool but if you are running a mower deck on the tractor this also raises the deck quite a bit which in turn cause's a TON of grass clippings to get sucked up into the blower screen. With the front of the deck raised the quality of cut suffers quite a bit as well. I didn't have time to look into making adjustments, I just threw the 48 inch deck onto my C-161 and away I went...

Geno,

I know this thread is on Tri-Ribs.

However, if you have a sources for producing tires, the rears on the bigger tractors are non existent.

27x9.5 15

Might be some demand for Ag's....

I have interest in anything that would sell but quantity is going to become an issue for them to produce them at a reasonable price.  Even if they did some less popular sizes I already know this would make the price too high because the tooling would have to be amortized somehow, and line changes still cost them in manpower and time.  I spent 3 years as a Director of Sales and Marketing for the 2nd largest speaker company in the world and learned a lot about the manufacturing end.  It gets back to what I said earlier, no one carries anything other than the most popular stuff, a lot of them have even quit making the odd sizes because of demand in this wonderful economy we have.  :eusa-doh:

I will still check it out, never hurts to ask right?  :handgestures-thumbsup:

What size are the tires on the front of your tractor? The sizing of these tri ribs confuses me.

The worst thing Nick is that there seems to be no standard in the tire size world.   :eusa-doh:

I just put new tires on the snowbeast.

Firestone tri-ribs 16-6.5-8 from Miller Tire.  I'm sure it was more than KenB paid, over $170 delivered

The rears are ChenSheng 23-10.5-12 turfs, but will run with chains most of the year.

They were SUPPOSED to be Carlisle Turf Masters, but that is a long, sad story.

I use tubes.  Too cold here in the winter, too many slow leaks.

I can't afford to be screwing with tires when it is -10, and 30" of snow fell overnight.

They don't make Firestone in that size anymore that I've seen. I found an old pair at a flea market not long ago but haven't seen new in years.
