876wheelhorse 46 #1 Posted September 3, 2014 Picked this tractor up guy said it ran 2 years ago.... I hope it did at least it had good compression by hand. Rear tires been flat and dry rotted. They held air a hour tops. I pulled peacock from tank and the rubber grommet was cracked not a drip in tank. Somehow both set screws on hub are snapped off might be interesting to fix that. I was informed flat 1 1/8 hubs are hard to come by. So I have. Battery on charger and will get fuel line and filter. Hopefully fires up. It came with a 42 deck and blade that won't work on it... Oh it's a mystery machine no tag on it so not sure on year....hour meter don't know if it works or not only hundred some hours on it
Geno 1,928 #2 Posted September 3, 2014 It will make a good tractor for you if you get her running.
Molon_Labe 731 #3 Posted September 3, 2014 That K321 is a great engine, keep us posted on your progress. I know you'll get the old girl going!
Wheel-N-It 2,967 #4 Posted September 3, 2014 Thanks for the story and pics! I did not know that prior to Toro, the Wheel Horse company made a 314-8 with a K powered Kohler. I've learned something new today. Please keep us posted with some pics and updates on getting that tractor started.
876wheelhorse 46 #5 Posted September 3, 2014 its the mystery machine. it dont have the tag that shows what year it is. anywhere else that i could find out what year it is. The throttle shaft is very tight in there not like most carbs where they are loose. hour meter only shows 100 something on it i really doubt if that is right especially the way the tires are worn. i need tires anyone has any they want to get rid of that a decent. let me know
Wheel-N-It 2,967 #6 Posted September 3, 2014 Was the poor thing kept outside? I hope the throttle shaft stays nice and tight for you after its been running for a day or two. If it's still nice and tight after that I'd say it probibly has less than 500 hours. Thats just a guess though........
876wheelhorse 46 #7 Posted September 3, 2014 yeah outside it sat in same spot for at least last 2 years. it sucked getting on trailer flat tires dont roll very good. i was lucky there was a kid there that could help me get on trailer. i need that winch on my trailer just drag it on. lol my luck motor be knocking and smoking.... i hope not though
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,478 #8 Posted September 3, 2014 The model number of the tractor is 21-14K801 and a 1985 model. Red decal on the hood is pre-1990. They didn't build another 314-8 until 1993. Garry
N3PUY 1,031 #9 Posted September 3, 2014 Why won't the deck work? How about a picture! Looks like something I'ld buy. Actually... looks better than some I've purchased.
876wheelhorse 46 #10 Posted September 4, 2014 I'll sell it or trade for another horse... I went out today got the fuel tank grommet new fuel line and a filter. I was watching the filter and no fuel pumping. So I had another pump here put it on pumped fuel and it fired up. It smoked a little then cleared up. It has a knock at lower rpm's. The choke cable is frozen been working to get it freed up. I have it listed 475 with deck or trade. The tractor isn't in that bad of shape. If it wasn't for the knock I'd keep it plow snow with it. Geno 1,928 #11 Posted September 5, 2014 Have you checked the point gap? Try about 18 thous and see if it helps with the knock.
jackhammer 544 #12 Posted September 6, 2014 876wheelhorse,, I still think I would keep it . You're just used to the older models
Geno 1,928 #13 Posted September 6, 2014 I agree with Hammer, here's one we fixed up and sold. It's a 310-8, the only difference is the Magnum engine.
