New to Wheel Horse with a 877

Recommended Posts

ljones

Just brought home my new to me 1967 877. It's a little rough and I don't know much about it. Is there anything I should be checking on these? I only found the hydro service manual. Are there any operator manuals? What kind of fluid goes in the trans? I haven't seen "type a" anywhere. Are the lights original?

:text-welcomewave:  Nice looking Horse you got there.  I'm sure plenty of others will show up and be able to answer all your questions.

There is a manuals section here, it is very nice.

Type A fluid is GM's first version of what became Dexron.  Dexron III can be found at any parts store and is backward compatible.  :)

Lights are not original , this tractor would not have come with fitted lights. The hood on your tractor has the 7 hole fins on the front grill.

Nice tractor , I love the short frame series.,

Is there any napa part number for the trans filter? Does anybody have a picture of how the govoner/throttle cable hook up is supposed to be? Mine was bypassing the govener.

Congragulations on your wheel horse purchase. What other lawn and garden tracors do you have? Post some pics of them in the "other brand" section.

Minor setback with the horse. I had this rattle/clunking sound coming from the blower housing. I took it all off to find it and found this behind the flywheel. I figured I'd just take the one from the JD but it's no good either.

You can see a small crack next to the keyway.

I figure the original flywheel broke from running way to fast. The po hooked the throttle cable right to the govner arm. I think I got it fixed back now. Does it look right?

Is this thing supposed to have a brake? Mine doesn't.

No brake, just the belt tension release for the hydro.  :)

What's the pedal that goes to the trans on the flywheel side of the one AMC RULES has?

Clutch pedal.

Returns the trans to its neutral position...

which in turn, locks it up like a brake.  :handgestures-thumbsup:

You can't roll this tractor in the neutral position, without opening the tow valve first.

It looks like that is missing on mine.
