gas tank help

Recommended Posts

i believe this is a 753 and i'm having an issue with the gas tank leaking or seeping.

it's a one piece tank and there is a large nut on the bottom of it that the fuel nipple screws into.

does that large nut come off or can it be tightened?.

that's where it seems to be leaking from (more like seeping).

Yes, the nipple can be removed. Unscrew it, clean the threads and re-seal it with a good plumbing sealer that is suitable for petroleum.

no it's not the nipple that's leaking it's the large nut on the bottom of the tank the nipple screws into.

That looks more like a 701/702 tank. The large device is a threaded plug with a threaded hole in the middle for your nipple. The plug is threaded, should have a shoulder that you can put a large wrench on and unscrew.

Yes, that unscrews.

I have a tank without the plug. Been looking for a plug to replace it.

Hard to tell from here, but wouldn't a *1" X 1/4" black iron reducing bushing work? *Assuming the large hole is 1"

If my memory serves me correctly, I think the large hole is about 2". I will dig out my tank and measure it later.

i've heard of the tank seal stuff but don't know if it works on aluminum.

I have sealed fuel oil tank pipe joints and plugs with pipe dope made for petroleum products. I use the same stuff on all gas line connections on my tractors. Lowe's and Home Depot carry it in their plumbing department.

Would a pipe plug, drilled and tapped center hole do the trick?

Sounds easy enough.   :eusa-think:
