fourwheels0 191 #1 Posted July 29, 2014 i believe this is a 753 and i'm having an issue with the gas tank leaking or seeping. it's a one piece tank and there is a large nut on the bottom of it that the fuel nipple screws into. does that large nut come off or can it be tightened?. that's where it seems to be leaking from (more like seeping). rmaynard 14,805 #2 Posted July 29, 2014 (edited) Yes, the nipple can be removed. Unscrew it, clean the threads and re-seal it with a good plumbing sealer that is suitable for petroleum. Edited July 29, 2014 by rmaynard
fourwheels0 191 #3 Posted July 29, 2014 no it's not the nipple that's leaking it's the large nut on the bottom of the tank the nipple screws into.

rmaynard 14,805 #5 Posted July 29, 2014 (edited) That looks more like a 701/702 tank. The large device is a threaded plug with a threaded hole in the middle for your nipple. The plug is threaded, should have a shoulder that you can put a large wrench on and unscrew. Yes, that unscrews. I have a tank without the plug. Been looking for a plug to replace it. KC9KAS 4,741 #6 Posted July 30, 2014 I have a tank without the plug. Been looking for a plug to replace it. Hard to tell from here, but wouldn't a *1" X 1/4" black iron reducing bushing work? *Assuming the large hole is 1"
rmaynard 14,805 #7 Posted July 30, 2014 If my memory serves me correctly, I think the large hole is about 2". I will dig out my tank and measure it later.
fourwheels0 191 #8 Posted July 30, 2014 can anyone tell me how to seal it?. i've heard of the tank seal stuff but don't know if it works on aluminum.
rmaynard 14,805 #9 Posted July 31, 2014 I have sealed fuel oil tank pipe joints and plugs with pipe dope made for petroleum products. I use the same stuff on all gas line connections on my tractors. Lowe's and Home Depot carry it in their plumbing department.
Tankman 3,514 #10 Posted August 2, 2014 Would a pipe plug, drilled and tapped center hole do the trick? Sounds easy enough.
