Need help with tractor ID

Brought 2 more home yesterday and the label on one is missing.  One is a 1970 Raider 12, the other I'm not sure.  The serial on the other is 42540 which is printed on the gear selector decal.  I have the correct short hood for it also but not the front piece.  I know you guys will know what it is.   :)

Looks like a 1054, a good, solid, very collectible tractor    Good luck with it.

We just got through pressure washing this thing and I can't believe the amount of metal in it.  The only thing I've seen heavier than this is a D series.  Is it fair to say that it is superior to the B, C, 400, 500 series?

It also looks like they built them in 64 and 65 as a 1054A, is that correct?

Its a 953(1963), 1054(1964) or a 1054a(1965).

Looked at the manual section and Mike is right, the pic on the 1963 953 looks the same too.  Is there any way to narrow it by serial or features or anything?

The motor seems to have been changed too, I can't find this number in the WH master model list.

I think that the 953 had a Ross steering box/assembly that the 1054 and 1054a did not. I don't see the headlights in your pile of stuff but the 953 headlights were different from the other two. Do you have a 10hp or a 9.5hp Kohler?

I don't have the correct front piece or headlamps, just the hood.  It has a 14hp.   :eusa-doh: Guess I'll have to look into steering differences.

"D"- Man

The seat frame is the part# 2788 style not the part# 2727 style this is a 1054 or 1054A style seat frame.  This tractor has the fan gear style steering, however: so did some of the later style 953's so this does not help much.  The hood decal placement if original looks to be where they were placed on the 953's. I have a 1054 with seial #42494 on the shift decal, Mark.

The serial is 42540 which is printed on the gear selector decal.  I just came back here to tell Mike I found out the late 953's had the same steering after Wheel Horse dropped their supplier and started making their own.  This tractor has the later steering.

As it was getting pressure washed today there is another decal under the little Wheel Horse one seen on the hood now in the above pics.

I looked through all the manuals for the 3 we are talking about here.  If the pics are correct on the front spindle the 953 does not show a reinforcement on the joint where it goes to the wheel, the 64 + 65 1054 does.  Mine has this reinforcement.
