Advice needed. What to do with an 875 with a bad engine?

After 25 years of faithful service mowing my lawn my 875 has gone to the big meadow in the sky.

I was going to sell it at the end of this season since I'm moving and my new house has a push mower yard.  If I was staying, I'd probably try to re-build the engine.  I know it's a Kohler 8hp engine.  I think it's a K-181.  I was mowing when I heard a loud noise and it stopped running.  When I turn the key the starter turns and turns the pulley on the other side of the engine so I don't think it's the crank shaft. I'm guessing piston or valves.

It has a hydraulic transmission.

The deck has rusted through but I know where to get a restored deck if it can't be fixed.  Because of all the tree roots on my property I broke the big cast iron fitting on the underside several times so I had one fabricated out of steel.

I never got into tractors as a hobby - I just wanted to cut my grass.

My questions for the people on this site are -

Is  this mower of any value now?

Should I list it for sale on this site or Craigs list? or

Should I just scrap it at a metal dealer?

I would appreciate any advice.

Thank you.

A few pictures allways help the cause. Words VS. pictures can be very very differant. My 2 cents anyway.

Don't scrap it.

I'm sure someone on this site close to you would like to bring it back to life.

Might try a "for sale" ad here in the  :rs: classifieds.

I don't have any idea what it's worth to a scrap dealer but I can't imagine it would be much. You're in a good area to sell it and there's no doubt somebody, probably on here, would love to have it. I think you should list it here first. That way it will be going to a good home.

It is not worth much unfortunatly.  I paid $125 for mine as an oil burner & no mower.  I would love to snag it for parts, but you are simply too far.

I agree about being too far or I would definitely purchase it as a parts mower. Don't scrap it!

If I had space in my Horse barn, I'd come and get it.  I'm not too far away.

Take some pictures, and list it here on RedSquare first.  You'll be sure of getting a collector.   If it doesn't sell after a few weeks, put it on craigslist in Lancaster, York, Allentown, and Philadelphia.    There are loads of collectors in Lancaster and York area.   It will be gone in no time.

Where ever you list it, definitely take pictures.  And definitely don't junk it.   Junk yards will give you about $30 for it, then turn around a sell it for $100.

Good luck,   Jim
