Round Fenders on a Newer Model - Anyone Done It??

Recommended Posts

So I've been gone for a LONG time, thanks Mike(Sparky) for helping me log back in. I have an old Workhorse GT 1600 that I restored some time ago that I want to make a pulling/yard tractor out of. I was looking around on here at some of the guys that run a dual wheel set up, sweet, and wanted to do that myself. The older round fenders look great, but when you put the dual set up on the squared up ones...well they just don't fit, IMO. I was thinking of putting a set of 60's model/400 etc on to give it a more classic look. I also found some real nice Case 220 squared up fenders that look like they would do the trick while keeping similar lines to what I have already.

I have been using my 416H to pull my camper around the yard from the garage to the drive way, or just some light maneuvering and it does great but strains the Hydro so I figured the 8 speed  would be a better option. Yes I know I am way overloading it but it actually works like a charm.

Here's a pic of the 416 in action!!

and here's a pic of the semi restored GT 1600, my plan is to also modify the foot rest as well as the current seat pan to flow with the lines of whichever fender I use.

Has anyone done this?? Pictures please too, thanks!!

Well there always has to be a first right? Hopefully I can get it done before someone else beats me to it.

Not yet :(  I finked out on the round fenders after seeing where someone (on here) used a set of squared off fenders from another model Wheel Horse model, looked pretty sweet. So I set about to finding a set of fenders that looked like they would fit the bill and what I found were Case 446 fenders that I will modify to fit, as well as modify the foot rests. I think they will give it the "big tractor" look without conflicting the lines. I also have a 520 swept axle set up that I am going to eventually install. All that said, I work away from home and won't be home for another week or so...but then, it's game on.

I haven't done it on a WH, but I did do it on a green GT, put '68 fenders and spring seat on a '72 pan style that the pan had rusted out on..... That wasn't too bad, but the frames are different, so I don't know how things would bolt up our our Horsees.

I did a "dry run" with my fender idea. I think it turned out ~ok. I think/know they need to be positioned lower, but I am also going to run taller tires...probably in the 28" range. They actually worked out pretty good this way, I removed the seat pan, bent 2 of the tabs in and the remaining one used the original seat mount bolt. Once I get the bigger tires on I will add more, so maybe consider this a teaser(??)

Thoughts/opinions welcome. Ps, this is my daughter's tractor, I modified the clutch pedal to be used with the deck lift rod.

Thanks. I know it needs some more work to make it look just right, right now it does look interesting . I was thinking of going with the Kenda K299 Klaw, very aggressive, almost like a tractor tire, but it has side tread and some horizontal tread as well. I have them on my 4 wheeler and the pull great.

Daughter loves it, she pulled me and my wife around in a wagon most of the day.
