Newbie question

Hello everyone. I am in a rush and i am sure my concerns are already addressed in this forum. I just joined. I plan to tear apart my C-120 strip, prime and paint. I would like suggestions from everyone. Can I get it done with spray cans? If not, what paint should I spray? How to match the color. Prepping hints - chemical paint remover - sandblasting - etc. Is it possible to remove the screen off the flywheel (the 4 screws)? I am looking for any and all tips for the entire project.

Hi John, You're in the right category. "Painting Tips" offers many different members' opinions and techniques. Find a method that suits you, and go for it !

My opinion is that to truly call it restored, you would need to have all the metal blasted, and use an HVLP gun to do the painting. 10 days is a pretty small timetable, but I wish you luck.

Keep us posted with pics in the "Work In Progress" area.

valspar restoration series spray cans in international harvestor red are hadns down the best spray cans in my opinion for the job.

I am just finishing up a 1970 electro 12 and I am extremely happy with the results. one tip if you are going to use cans is to buy one of the trigger handles that attach to the top of the spray cans. this allows better control with the cans nozzle (BTW valspar resto series has a narrow band wide spray pattern similar to what comes out of HVLP guns).

for priming I used rust red from wal-mart (buck a can) it laid down a great base layer.

the paint is shiny and smooth and I am happy with it.

no matter what you decide to do you will have fun...just allow yourself proper time for paint to set and dont get stressed out.

taping is also very important and the 3M blue painters tape works great.
