I have a 62re lawn ranger it seems the belt is a little tight when clutch is depresed the belt won't slip what might be wrong and also what's the size the belt needs to be

Is the belt guard in place, most of the 60's :wh: had an angle iron lower rail that functioned as a belt break, stopped the belt from moving when the clutch is depressed.

The belt is a 70" Wheel Horse # 1576.  Like was stated above, the belt guard has to be in place to be able to shift.  The guard funnels slack in the belt toward the engine pulley when you depress the clutch.  Try taking off the belt and wiping the engine, transmission, and tension pulleys with mineral spirits...you can also lightly wipe the belt.  Sometimes, it is just a little dirt or grime that makes the belt stick on the pulleys.  :)
